2.3i oil change

Post by Tysonwills » Wed Aug 08, 2018 7:43 am

Im am atempting to change the oil on my 2009 2.3i sdrive.
I have followed a few youtube videos but i need one bit of advice.
Once I have the car trolly jacked up where to i put the jack stands for safety in case the jack fails every where underneath seems to be covered with plastic panels and i dont want to damage any of it.

Personally i run two wheels up on to a curb then jack up and and place what look like pieces of old sleepers under the other two wheels.
I never trust any type of stands. Just don't know how sturdy they really are.

Sounds perfect for most jobs under the car although it sounds like the car wouldn’t be level to drain all the oil away?

For oil I jack the rear n/s pad and put a stand under the front pad before lowering the jack. Once it’s nearly all drained I do the same in reverse so the cars sat on its wheels, level to let the dregs out.

As said already, jack from the rear jacking point on one side high enough that lifts the front and place a stand under the front jacking point. Lower the jack and do the same on the other side so you have the stands under the front two jacking points.
If you have a long enough jack theres what looks like a central jacking point just behind the engine underneath.

can you raise high enough by jacking the rear to get enough clearance at the front to access the drain plug

yes, if you jack the rear pad under the sill the front wheel on the same side also lifts off to the point you can get an axle stand under the front jackpad under the sill.

In fact you might only need to run the two front wheels up a curb as the sump plug is at the rear of the sump.
My last oil change i changed gearbox oil as well.
