Cup Holder
With a big interstate trip coming up involving long hours behind the wheel, I decided it was time to tackle the cup holder problem.
There aren't too many options in the right-hand-drive E89, but the clip-out ash tray under the lid at the front of the centre console seemed to have potential, so this is what I came up with. (It still needs a tidy up and painting, this is the working prototype).
The cup holder is a from a Holden Colorado (Twin-cab ute) and the fabricated mounting bracket fits inside the ash tray and is held in place with 3 small bolts. The section of the cup holder bridging over the console rests lightly on the console to support the load. A small piece of felt under the bridge will prevent rubbing. The ash tray with cup holder attached can still clip in and out, then the lid can close and the removed cup holder assembly can be stored in the glove box or on the shelf behind the seats when not in use.

Good effort, looks like it could be made as a double or single unit also

Thank-you, interesting.
Another question - does having the holder in that position cause the passenger much hassle regarding leg room etc? (same question applies to the genuine BMW one that they do for left hand drive cars).
When I have a passenger it seems their knee's are in that area.

Looks like it has potential BUT only if you donβt have the smokers package and therefore power socket.Deepseaskateboard wrote: βThu Jul 12, 2018 11:46 pm https://global.rakuten.com/en/store/emu ... l-b114b-a/
This looks like it clips into the flap infront of the gear stick.
A bit extreme perhaps, but may do the job.

Have you not looked at buying a Z4 cup holder that sits below the side vents? I got mine from eBay.

Passenger's knee room is slightly reduced, but not uncomfortably so. I so rarely carry a passenger that it's not an issue, but the cup holder can simply be clipped in and out as required.ihadablackdog wrote: βSun Jul 29, 2018 1:09 pm Thank-you, interesting.
