Hi Guys,

As lots of you know, my car was sold few weeks ago for 10k. Yesterday, I stumbled on it being sold in France for 15k so thought I'd share the find.

Hi, I guess someone is trying to make profit, Z4 in UK are way cheaper than in France. Good luck with selling a RH drive car in France though!

If that’s the case how is this guy making profit? Seeing as he bought it off you for 10 grand but is selling it for 15 grand?

Unless it's changed from when I lived there It doesn't cost much at all to register a rhd drive car in france , it's just an hours paperwork and depending on the age of it an mot equivalent and a new set of number plates , I seem to remember there was a small fee . You don't even need to change the headlights these days !
And now I've actually read the ad the seller has already done the paperwork , tested it and got the necessary bits and pieces in place ready for sale , sounds like he's going to do well out of it , if he can actually manage to sell a rhd petrol car there .

From what I know and having lived and registered cars in France before, It doesn't cost much to register cars in France but I think that if the car is over a certain cc or value (Largus) then it would cost quiet a bit I think. I remembered I checked for my Z4 and it was about 6k but again in France, different people in the same department can give you different advice.

The seller hasn't got the french paperwork for it, he merely got the equivalent of the MOT and the Certificate of Conformity from BMW, He left it up to the buyer to do the paperwork. I wish him good luck selling it tho.

I hope I am wrong about the above but wish him good luck !

I live in France and I am not surprised at all with the price tag. I have sold right hand drive cars before to French people but they have been really pussy about the RHD Z4. If you search on boncoin you will find loads of Z's on there for inflated prices. There is a dealer up on the coast near La Rochelle who has loads on his site. It does not cost 6 grand to get one immatriculated in France. Not sure why the snide remarks about making a profit. I don't have a problem with it. But he will struggle because of the RHD.

It's a while since I did it and may have changed but seeing as the seller has a ct and coc I'd guess he's also got a carte grise in his name and that's all you used to really need as you used fill in the carte grise and send it off for your new registration at the prefecture.
As I said , I'm probably wrong as it was a long time ago and the wine was even cheaper when I lived there , I'd like to be able to say I remember it well but I can't :D

To import a car from EU into France is not a big deal nowadays. Getting a car from outside the EU is a different story! We'll see how the Brexit will change that...
I've Googled the name on the ad and seen this guy set up his business of importing cars from UK to France recently, there must be a very tiny niche market of people not caring about the RH seating :P
I definitely would avoid that, it is just impossible to overpass anyone with the lack of visibility! Truly a shame with such an engine :headbang:

That tiny niche could be the older narrow minded reluctant to change ex pats that live in france ! I actually bought a rhd car for friend , x type estate , in England and drove it there for him as he wouldn't buy a lhd car in france because of the inflated prices ! The offset is the second hand market demands higher prices.
He saved a couple of grand on his purchase price but cost himself a small fortune moving back to England and now that car is worth f**k all as he's in England
There's a few high end and high performance rhd cars circulating the Nurburgring on numerous eu countries reg plates , I'm guessing it's due to the purchase cost in England compared to mainland Europe?

And they talk of free trade!
You don't stop playing when you get old - You get old when you stop playing!
So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.
