Replacing mirror covers

Post by SteveSmith » Mon May 21, 2018 1:22 pm

Hi all,

Do the mirror covers just pop off? What’s the best tool / process to follow?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Steve, are you sure the new ones don’t just attach to the existing covers with 3m tape or similar?

I took a Focus through an automatic car wash once and the mirror cover flew off!

Wouldn’t take a z through one, but worth bearing in mind if you get stuck!

Thanks!

Yes picked them up from the post office today, not sure on them to be honest! Think I might go back to white ones and if I get any more carbon then maybe they’d work.

Replacing mirror covers

Post by GoSteve » Fri Jun 08, 2018 12:21 am

I replaced one of my covers a couple of weeks ago. I got it painted by Wingmirrorman.co.uk for £30. Came back perfect.
To fit, you need to remove the glass, the use a screwdriver to pop 4 fixing clips. It's obvious when you pop out the mirror glass. Be careful with the glass. Genuine mirrors are £110 each. Apparently they are the same as an i8. Be extra careful when refitting. Make sure the small guides tabs are all in place by gently squeezing it to fit. I broke a couple off when fitting mine. I didn't notice them.
If you change your mind on the silver, I might be interested in buying your covers if they are silver.

Sadly May 2021 said goodbye to my red Z4 hello to Cayman 981S.
Looking for Z4 35is for wifey.
