I think (not) thats an absolute bargain, I particularly like the Environmental disposal charge given they probably sell the used oil onto the local Kebab shop.

Retired now but been an engineer all my working life and obviously still am. I really do wonder about the servicing thinking on modern cars. I go a long way back to the days of either minor or major service on a 12 month alternating cycle - more or less. I’ve recently bought a 14 plate 2.0i with 14k miles and FSH on a 5 year Service Plan - everything having been done as it should. That said - the work so far amounts to an oil and filter change (next one due 6/18) and a Brake Fluid Change - and little else. In spite of it having received an “Inspection” to “exacting standards” for “Approved Used” prior to delivery, I am busy working through the car. After a week of cosmetic work I’ve now started on the mechanicals. First job wheels off and brakes apart to clean up and repaint discs and callipers, scale and repaint the odd cable bracket etc. The first wheel took me two hours to remove requiring a good soaking of release oil around the hub and gentle heating with a fan heater in same area. I know alloys frequently seize to the hubs but I don’t believe these wheels have ever been off in four years. My point is - what exactly do you get for £130 an hour these days? It’s a great car - really enjoying it and to be honest my hobby is spending hours in the garage faffing as my wife calls it but I cannot imagine keeping up with Main Dealer SH once the Extended Warranty/Service Plan expires. If anything my car has probably suffered a bit from lack of use by previous owner but I really do think that four years is just too long to not go a bit further than an oil change. I know the maintenance is intended to be variable but at the moment the front brakes have 33k miles left in them and the rear brakes 20k miles according to the Service Indicator but that could be a few more years yet - can’t imagine not taking my brakes apart every couple of years. Apart from the E Brake assembly the brakes aren’t really any different to cars from 30 years ago. Sorry going on a bit here.....

Did you get your car from Marshalls group, possibly in Hook?

Haha, my advice is to stay away from them....you couldn’t have got much further away, good work!

You're too far from the standard user profile, Crista - 12-15k miles/year & expected vehicle life of 6-8 years.

Within this profile, your wheel's wouldn't have stuck, because they'd have been off at least every two years for new tyres, of course.

All manufacturers have user & use profiles, the latter for parts and whole vehicles, primarily to minimise manufacturing costs and those associated with essential servicing.

We step outside these profiles at our peril.

Its only got 14,000 miles on it though, so it could still be on the original tyres and as Crista says the wheels might never have been off before

Yes, but it's a 14 plate and, so, 'outside the profile'. BMW - and most manufacturers - don't plan for eventualities like this.

I wonder what user profile plans for this then. I did ask to look underneath the car before I bought it while it was on the ramps but I was told no public allowed in the workshop. I was shocked at how much the rear wishbone arms had corroded and indeed the anti roll bar bush clamps - plus a few other things. Now - since the car has had the requisite inspections this must be considered normal by the Manufacturer - hmm.... I know these parts are consumable but not in four years surely? I have bought a couple of wishbones and will change them in the near future. The user profile for oil change intervals is mileage or calendar based for low users - it would seem logical then that it would be sensible to remove the wheels at least every two years to prevent them seizing to the hubs. I took another wheel off this afternoon two hours of release oil and gentle heating again so that I could get to the wishbone to remove the rust/treat and give it a bit more life......

I doubt that’s been caused solely by rain, more likely to be coated in roadsalt & left without rinsing away :o

Crista, you've obviously never owned a 911.

By Porsche standards, your 2014 2.0i looks about 12 months old. :)

I think that’s exactly what’s caused it - as it’s stood on the previous owners drive for the last year and probably has collected salt prior to that and never been washed off. The wishbone on the other side is like new but the near side is more shielded. I’ve scaled all the rust off and it actually looks worse than it is. I have bought another “like new” wishbone to fit at some point before next winter. A few years ago I rebuilt a Z3 - 18 years old and it wasn’t much worse than that. The Porsche’s I’ve had (older Boxters) have all been really good underneath. There’ll be a good coating of ACF 50 all underneath before the winter. Everywhere else is ok just light rust in places on consumeable parts. Something I’ve only just realised about the E89 - all bolt on panels same as the Z3 very handy for repairs......
