Heavy Boot

It might just be me being a wimp, but when I pop my boot, it is quite stiff and heavy, I always feel I am going to pull the lift up BMW badge off whenever I open it

Is it an e89?

Any how, mine e85, is as light as a feather and just nicely damped. :D

Not just you. I press the badge to open, then lift on the actual boot itself. Saves the dread of the badge snapping

It’s heavy because it’s part of the roof mechanism. I use the badge to open the lock and then lift the boot itself by its lower edge.

Yeah I always lift from the lower edge too. Speaking of boot lids... does anyone else squeak quite loudly when it sets down after opening or closing the roof? I can't work out exactly where the squeak is coming from and would like to eliminate it.

Mine doesn't exactly squeak but the motor on mine makes a noise as it shuts the boot lid down tight, also makes the same noise upon opening as it releases. Could this be what you are hearing?

I don't think it's the motor. I guess it's more of a creak than a squeak... lower pitch... similar to a creaky floorboard. I don't think it did it when I first bought the car. Maybe its the cold?

Excellent! Thanks so much!

Sorry to have hijacked the thread!

A bit more on topic... Has anyone ever swapped out the hydraulic struts for ones strong enough to open the boot by themselves once the catch has been released? Or would they be too strong to close it?
