Got to say tho that carrying or not, the Roadster Bags are good kit and make packing up a doddle - they can’t be overfilled so the boot contents over cover always closes!
They are expensive but they always sell - they don’t hang around on the for sale list for long and they command good money - so you won’t take a big hit.
You don't stop playing when you get old - You get old when you stop playing!
So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.

mcbutler wrote: Mon Feb 12, 2018 5:52 pmThe advantage of soft holdalls is you can 'cram' them in.
I get loads in by simply stuffing the centre area to the brim, pulling the lid over and snapping it down.
The disadvantages are that they don't have wheels and that pulling the lid over and snapping it down can snap its plastic hinge brackets.

Just sayin'.
I have muscles to carry mine, and the hinges are fine so long as you don't go daft..

I wont answer that on the grounds that I may offend someone :D

Seriously though I just feel happier carrying cases, I'm a big strong bloke and just prefer to carry them, I find it quicker and easier
maybe one day if i get too old and unable to carry them i'll change my mind, but then I'm unlikely to be going on holiday.
Well said Gaffa, if you go soft and let your body get old it will, and very quickly. Carrying a case, walking up escalators etc, all free workouts and good for us.

It looks like an E85 to me - Tripp make a case suitable for that model - Two fit perfectly side by side ! They fit so well they look as good as the pukka fitted luggage.

Yes, e85. If you measure the boot, then trawl the internet for cases that fit, you’ll find some.

I’m used to travelling Europe on the bike and make do with 20 litres for a 12 day trip, anything larger for the car is a bonus for me and the missus.

From memory the Tripp cases I bought for a previous E85 were 410 wide and fitted the 820 boot recess nicely!
Unfortunately the same two cases won’t fit the E89 that replaced it!

I have a had a good search and can find lots of threads about the Koffer fitted luggage but i don't want cases.

So has anyone determined the optimum sized holdalls to make best use of the space and still be able to lower the roof ?
I've measured the boot space and reckon two holdalls 27" x 14" should fit, but would be very interested to hear from any one who uses holdalls / kit bags
You may find these to be very good..I recommend them..good for a week long road trip for two with the top down..

Has anyone tried these bags for size in the E89 please? (roof down) on paper they look good. I need a “his ‘n hers” set for the summer and these caught my eye.

Cheers

At that price you may as well get the Roadster Bags that utilise the available (top down) space perfectly.
€199 on Koffer24

When / if you change cars, the Roadster Bags will sell very easily - unlike an ordinary used suit case.

You make a good point there (especially about resale value!)

I’m 70, got wobbly legs, had some heart work but I’m not in a box yet - far from it I hope but definitely not a strong bloke anymore, so I need cases with wheels to compensate.

Ps - not offended :D
We're in our 60s (well, I nearly am) and loving our Z. Leaving the pub the other day, on seeing our car, a chap called over to his wife, Brenda, we're getting one of these next. He was in his 80s. Pretty sure he meant it too.
Ps. We have cases with wheels too. Can't imagine not having holidays. That's what retirement is for!
