Boot release badge/mechanism

Whilst cleaning today I noticed that the chrome parts of the boot release handle/badge is showing signs of corrosion/blistering, I don't believe it's an expensive part but is it an easy fit for someone like myself who doesn't like to get their hands dirty?

Are you sure its not the actual emblem thats rusting and not the plate behind it. I believe the emblem is just stuck onto the mechanism handle.

From memory it's bolted on from the inside.
All it does is operate a micro switch, nothing fancy.
Yes poor, the chrome blisters as the alloy corrodes underneath.
Quality car you see.

It's partly the edge of the badge and partly behind it when operated, probably caused by trapped water.

Thanks, that's good to know, I will pay a visit to the stealers to see how much they want for one, only used ones on ebay for around £35.

It's in multiple pieces, and knowing BMW, none will be cheap!

We all secretly grinned when you said it wouldn’t be expensive in your earlier post.

It's been nearly 20 years since my last BMW, my old age has clearly made me forget some of the bills

I just purchased a 16 plate E89 from BMW in January they were trying to convince me the badge had been scratched causing the corrosion

I suggested it was the alloy coroding pushing the chrome off

It got replaced under warranty
