Z4M or 35is ?

Post by ronk » Wed Jan 31, 2018 6:33 pm

I’m driving a Z4 because of Westfield!

I had a test drive in a Westie and on the way home full of enthusiasm for the forthcoming car, an old boy in a Nissan changed lanes without looking - he bashed into the side of us - after that my wife said “get one but I won’t ride in it”!
There wasn’t an argument I could make so down the Z4 route I went.
You don't stop playing when you get old - You get old when you stop playing!
So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.

I stopped using my Westfield on the road for fear of being stepped on by someone in an SUV. I do miss the country lane blats but it’s much less stressful going sideways on a track where there are no trees to hit!

I never got to that stage!
Mrs K effectively put the block on purchase of a westfield!

I’ve started to feel the same about my motorbikes after getting side swiped recently :(

At least it was just the tip of a paw and not the leg that was squashed Mr Bear. I hope it’s finally on the mend.
It would be a shame for this to herald the end of something you enjoy, but I see motorbikes like cigarettes...if you indulge, one way or another they’ll get you in the end. Of course my opinion is somewhat skewed by the number of days and nights I’ve spent reassembling unfortunate bikers.

I was still young but the final push for my decision was writing off my first Westfield and almost myself with it.

Would she be so resistant to a Westfield as a track only car?

Now that’s something a father could relay to a son who wants a motorbike or a daughter who has a boyfriend with a bike!

Several of my friends are bikers, some of whom are trauma surgeons....

I’d like to add that I’ve never had to reassemble someone injured in or by a Z4...not even an ///M :D

I’m sure that would be allowed - however due to a C3/4 - 5/6 Problem some years ago, I would think getting out of a 7 or westie unaided would be impossible. When I bought the 35is late 2016 I was offered a BMW M track day (in their vehicles inc a single seater) but had to take a cash alternative because of the dodgy legs

I mostly away with the problem on a day to day basis but can’t articulate the upper leg past 90° to the torso without lifting them and getting out of a bath isn’t possible either !

So daily showers and sensible (ish) cars it has to be!

Z4M or 35is ?

Still i have to admit to hankering after another 7 -nothing like it
I think going on the track is really the only safe environment to explore the limits of a 7 -or any car for that matter
Everyone driving in one direction and no scary suprises such as animals or tractors pulling out
-especially if you swerve the hot hatch days and go when like minded folk are respectful to each other and don't want to trash their cars
I made sure i got professional instruction before i took the 7 on a track
Despite that SWMBO was never comfortable with me going on the track
-especially when my wee boy told SWMBO in graphic detail about his experience as a pax
Mind you it's hard on car taking it on track -it uncovers any component weakness driving at the limit
I ended up going home on flat bed on two occasions that i can recall -once in my BDR and another time in my VXE
