It should be a lifetime oil, I wouldn't change it tbh as there is no point !!

Changing diff oil
They say this about gearbox oil but it made a huge difference on my old Mini Cooper S!

Did my gearbox and diff oil last summer. Went to diy garage with a lift tho. Piece of p!ss.
Gearbox huge difference. Selecting gears from cold now possible everytime and supersmooth.
Diff cant really tell any difference but still glad i changed it

Doing it because I have a whine on the diff, been advised to change the oil, check removed oil for 'chrome particles'. If present it indicates bearing/gearface breakdown. Guess I will get my local indy to do it, dont fancy rolling around on the wet floor that much anyway.

It's a little bit more difficult as I'm sure the e89 doesn't have a drain plug, so the oil will have to be sucked out

You were right, sucking it out is the only way, unless you can turn the car upside down!!!!!!

I Couldn't Disagree more....
Get it changed OP its not expensive and it could save you a lot of expense in the future and prolong the life of the diff

Agreed, I have never met a professional mechanic who thinks 'lifetime sealed' gearboxes etc are a good idea. Or for that matter 20,000 mile oil change intervals.
