A new review for the e89
Overall, an honest review and positive read on the whole.

Not very well researched though:
That and the fact they said the 30i was the pick of the bunch. There's a reason they stopped making that model!
God knows where they got that idea from. Next level bullshit, hot off the pressMarch 2010 saw the introduction of a more powerful twin-turbocharged 340bhp twin-turbo 3.0-litre sDrive35iS β the extra power coming from changes to the turbocharger

2010 was when the 35is first got introduced & it was / is a more powerful version of the twinturbo N54 with computer tweaked enhancement/throttle boost between 3rd / 7th depending on how much throttle the driver applies . It ups the standard torque during these bursts of acceleration
The 3.0i did get deleted around 2011 ( no doubt seen as uneconomical when pitched against a 2.0T) but if i was choosing one E89 to own longterm i would say it was the pick of the bunch especially being na / straight 6 which has been a Bmw trait
I thought it was a very fair read for anyone potentially looking to buy

Me too.
If/when I ever think of moving to an E89 I'd also be looking for a manual 30i - the N52 engine is great IMO.
Coupes because stunning!

The problem I have is that there was no change to the turbocharger. The only change was a software mod that allowed higher boot pressure temporarily.mr wilks wrote: βThu Jan 04, 2018 7:55 pmNot sure where your gripes are coming fromR.E92 wrote: βThu Jan 04, 2018 5:02 pmNot very well researched though:God knows where they got that idea from. The problem with the 30i is that it has the running costs as the 35i. The engine sounds great but not as good as the 35i and you lack a load of power and torque. I know there is a niche for the 30i but if it were the pick of the range it would surely still be available.

The other problems the N52 seems to suffer from is not having a turbo to require replacement, no HPFP issues, no injector issues and no potential for absurd adaptive suspension costs - works for me! (And probably means running costs are probably lower than for a 35i).R.E92 wrote: βThu Jan 04, 2018 11:53 pmThe problem with the 30i is that it has the running costs as the 35i. I'm guessing the 30i only got dropped due to headline CO2 emissions.
In 2005 I bought a 2004 320td that emitted 153 g/km, then in 2008 I replaced it with a 2007 123d that emitted 128 g/km. The latter may have cost Β£75 p.a. less in road tax on current rates, but when it needed a new AGM battery before it was 5 years old (Β£250+ for a replacement because it needed coding via the OBC) and a starter motor at just over 6 years (Β£600+ at a main agent) I would have been much better off keeping the 320td and paying Β£75 more a year road tax!

A balanced view of the E89 nothing to get het up about. I would agree with previous comments that the 3.0i offers the pick of the bunch for a long term ownership ( as I own one a slight prejudice may be detected) although I could be tempted by a 35i/s at some stage.
