I know this has been asked repeatedly but this is a rapidly moving area and threads from a year ago are out of date.

I want to install soemthing permanently. I don't really like the ones with the suction cup thingy, they look too much like satnavs from outside and you risk the car being broken into. Something small, discrete [and reliable] that can be left permanently connected up by the rear view mirror and starts immediately ignition is on (no need for constant recording when car is parked I don't think).

This gets around the suction cup

Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/142232200454

They make it a lot more discreet, I just have a nextbase 212 and it's spot on. About 60 quid in Halfords, I wired it to the fuse box so it comes on with the ignition, good quality videos.
18 Z4s owned to date.

Current: 2.5i Titan silver

Daily driver: 480bhp M140i Shadow edition.

Just fitted the garmin 55 dashcam , attached with a very secure pad, small and discreet with some great voice control functions . The garmin 65 is the latest camera but the picture isn’t as sharp.

This has reminded me to refit mine. The sticky pad kept coming unstuck from the window, so thought of making a metal plate bracket. When you remove the interior light, there are a couple of what appear to be tapped holes that i was going to use to fit the plate. I did cut a card template that was dog leg shaped. I will have to finish. I am using the Viofo 119 cam.

I run the ciccy adapter cable down the pillar, around back of glove box and pushed up the centre tunnel trim and into the arm rest socket.

Good, not great still hard to read number plates though especially at night say impossible unless stationary. And needs a good genuine sdcard. Cheapo don't work.

Have bought a couple in the last few weeks, as been meaning to upgrade those in the van and the zed. Both Prestigio full HD, and TBH I've been impressed. They don't have the bells and whistles (gps, speed camera alerts etc) that my Snooper DVr4HD does in the family bus, BUT I specifically wanted them WITHOUT GPS for the van and Zed, as I'm usually alone in those :D

Got this in the van; http://www.prestigio.com/catalogue/DVRs/RoadRunner_525 which has a nice big screen - Cost was £41+ vat from cpcfarnell

Have this in the Zed, nice and unobtrusive, but again, still full HD @ 30fps; http://www.prestigio.com/catalogue/DVRs/RoadRunner_140 - Cost £21.50+ vat, again from cpcfarnell. Got my Mum one of these last year, and it's still going strong, unlike the £35 no-name one's from ebay/china plus, get a full warranty from CPC.

Footage on the Zed is nice and clear..

Sits neatly out of the way in the Zed, hard wired..

I installed this one in my 5GT and it works well and fits the way that you want.

I've also fitted the lens filter and the power lead straight to the fuse box with a piggyback fuse holder.

That is the one i have.
You need the gps module as a stand off even if you don't use the gps, as i have found out, as i haven't got and needed a spacer.
The stick pad comes unstuck in the summer sun.

Use a Nextbase 412gw... it's fab. I got baited by a driver the other day as i was sticking to the NSL, he was right up my arse, slowing down, then speeding up...he didn't see the copper a few hundred yards up the road....

Thanks guys. I think I am going with the Nextbase 412GW and one of those custom brackets that Jamie mentioned.

If you want the most compact TOGUARD CE20 is tiny, permanent and performs very well. https://www.amazon.co.uk/TOGUARD-Dashbo ... d+dash+cam Not as high def as the 412GW but still performs well, I have it on my E85
Z4 3.0L 2005. Titan Silver. Audio Upgrade Second Stereo Pioneer X8700DAB, Sony Xplode 4 x 70W Amp, 6.5" Reckhorn Subs in rear cubby, Focal AS165-3 in fronts.
