They have already stated to me that any final settlement will not allow me to take any parts of the car with me.

...and that's exactly what you'd expect as they need to maximise the recovery value of the car, be that repairable, parts or scap

Indeed, that's fine with me. I'd just rather they paid me more... £19,400 won't buy me a 2013 35iS to replace mine with.

Sorry about your car mate... most important is you managed to walk away!

Worth more... I'd keep pressing. £23 or £24k

of course
Have you compared real world like for like spec prices to see how close the offer is? I don't mean main agent, or forecourt sales as their prices are above the value of the car and include warranties. Private would be a good benchmark.
Regardless there's always a hidden cost to crashes from replacement 'gap' costs, increased insurance for years, temporary car hire, etc.

I always take out GAP insurance (not the BMW offering as that’s ridiculously expensive) to cover the difference between an insurance pay out and what I paid for the car. My daughter had a car that was written off 3 years ago and haggling with the insurance company can only get you so far. She bought GAP insurance for the replacement.

Theres no way the op is getting £23k. Not even close....as I mentioned earlier, theres a 2014 car for sale by me for £23k.....and thats at a garage with warranty, etc, before haggling......

TBH Id say £20k is top book and £19400 is a reasonable offer. They will only pay what its worth on trade in.
If they paid near retail, there would be no market for GAP insurance.

Edit......just checked....the one near me is now £22500.....so the insurance offer looks reasonable tbh.

Here are a couple of cars that have been for sale for at least 3 months now....surely theres a deal to be done......

There are a couple of very nice replacements there for the price. I wonder if the insurance company would be interested in buying the replacement? I very much doubt it but worth a try

What sort of insurance company are you dealing with ?
Ie premier or value?

Trade in value?

New one on me and never had issue getting value to get comparable replacement.

There are different types of gap insurance. Return to invoice for example, so could get you back in a brand new car for example, even 3 years later.

Hmm, well it cetainly isnt my experience, unless you agree a value when taking out the policy (and policy cost rises as a result). Clearly the OPs insurance company dont agree with you either.

Still arguing with my insurer, Admiral (not sure whether they're "premier" or "value") as I don't think their offer is a fair valuation of my car. Prepared to go to the ombudsman, so we'll see if it gets that far.

I'm not going to get £23k for it, but there's currently a 2010 35iS up for £20k that's done 12,000 miles more than mine... So how can their valuation of my three year younger car tally up?

Hopefully we'll get somewhere this week. Really not enjoying the 2002 1.6l Focus that is my interim vehicle :(

Good luck bud! Although I wouldn’t expect the £23k mark I’d push for as much as I can get. Sub £20k is too low IMO and I wouldn’t be happy...

They’re bandits !
Promise the earth when they submit their premiums each year but when it comes to honouring those promises, they wriggle.
I bought a Shogun years ago - I paid £17k - three months later was written off - they offered me £12k
