Mmm ... nah, not the same thing.

Mind you, if you want to think they are ... :)
You've totally missed my factual post, you can drive a dct on an automatic licence- Or do you know better than the dvla?
Actually, you've made a very good point. An automatic box is easier to drive than a manual, which is why there's a separate licence for it. A DCT, however, is more complex to use properly than either, so perhaps there should be a license for it, too. :)

Thanks, I shan't. :)

Yes, DCT = A & A + KD (with timed default to A) in N
But it also =
A + M via P (with default to A)
A + M via L (with no default to A)
M via L (with no default)
All these in N & S
Some in SS via P or L
And combinations of some of these.
DCT changes are also much faster than A, of course.
(A = Auto, KD = Kick-down, M = Manual, P = Paddle, L = Lever, N = Normal, S = Sport, SS = SportS)

If you haven't tried DCT, don't think it's just an Auto. It isn't. Try one for a day and see.

I’m pretty sure my smart roadster had the same options for shifting & similar driving technique-it had fully auto, sequential change mode with stick & flappy paddle options as well
That was known as an automated manual as it had a robotised clutch & gearchange actuators :?

If you have one and you believe that, you're driving it wrong.

Some automated manul gearboxes are awful,SMG being one of them.... But the double clutch stuff like DCT,PDK,DSG etc etc are superb...

Ultimately some people just cant master technology...

It thins out the dinosaurs of the population...
