Gotcha.....it did cross my mind you meant that....then it fluttered away in a cloud of the usual brain fade.... :dizzy:

Not just that Colin but yes, it’s a major part in it. Nothing wrong with a DCT, absolutely fantastic gearbox which whatever you want to call it is superb. It just isn’t what I want in a fun car, a shame but there’s no getting away from it, I miss a manual too much.

That and Mr Zed 4 with the lancs drawl called me an old man..... :x

I can truthfully say that I love the DCT gearbox in my Z and would struggle to find a negative feature. It seems to suit the car very well in my opinion.

Other than sharper gear changes I can’t see any differences between the DCT box in the Z4 and the Torque Converter Auto box in our 335xd.

So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.

MACK wrote: Tue Mar 20, 2018 8:04 am So to get back on topic, Andy I know you said the high points were the 35i and your red Z4M. But I'm curious, do you actually regret selling any of them or is it always onwards and upwards. Why the red M over the silver grey one you had? Is that just a colour thing or something else?
Hey Mack , just to get back on topic
regret selling any ? certainly at times yes & that goes for the silver grey MR i had too , that car i had for 9 months & covered over 6000 pleasure miles :driving: bearing in mind my usual monthly mileage through a year would be 200 ish ? just any excuse it was £25 fuel & out i went
Generally speaking i know which model i want next while i still have the current one so part of the regret of selling is overcome with the thrill of finding / buying its replacing .
The Imola car just had aeros & was lowered plus the red paint just epitomises ///M ownership , a grin every time i raised the garage door
The silver 35i is a car i shouldn't really have liked so much , lardy by M comparison but a refined brute with 370bhp & manual box  lowered it on H & Rs & it drove exceptionally well for GT/cruiser .
I'm enjoying my coupe for now but know that within months it will be gone & a roadster will be in its place :driving: exactly which one remains to be seen

What motivates you to change - just curiosity from somebody who seems to hang onto his cars for too long!

My previous 3.0 E89 was the shortest length of time I’ve had a car - three years. I only changed because the maths re the two cars I had added up and a new 35is made some sort of financial sense!

Generally all the cars ive bought have required at least some minor cosmetics (shabby wheels etc) or service work & I enjoy the whole finding - fettling - personalising - selling of them .
I also find it hard to identify a true winner between Si coupe - Si roadster - Mroadster & E89 as all 4 have their own positives & negatives
Finally ive found that doing it my way i have avoided depreciation so after 5+ years whilst i have spent on service / upgrades buying at the right price & selling within 6 months has meant virtually zero ££ lost , now that won't be everyone's idea of car ownership but for myself i have 2 other vehicles in the house to run which inevitably i'm losing money on , a third would just be getting silly

Just increased the insured value of the Golf actually. Annual insurance premium a shocking £66 now.

The beetle is turning into a nice investment though, just need a really depreciating car now to offset all that profit
