Echo Dot arrived as promised and now fitted and working great.

For anyone thinking of doing the same these two vids are easy to follow (Even for me) and the results are great.

Maybe a bit over the top but I like techy projects so I’ve installed an Echo dot into my car.

The dot is powered by the armrest cigarette socket with a twin USB adapter as I use the car USB socket for a memory stick of my own music.

I then have a ‘wingle’ which is a USB stick sized 4G modem with built in WiFi, this is also powered by the twin USB adapter.

The dot connects to the internet via the wingle and its audio to the 3.5mm aux input in the arm rest.

The dot sits on the rear shelf in the middle, hidden by the luggage net.

Works rather well!

Yep exactly the same set up as mine but without the Wingle thing you mention as I use my iphone as the wifi source. Attach a piece of velcro on the back of the dot and attach it higher up between the seats. It reacts better to your voice even with the top down. As I bought a black one you don't see it until it responds to your commands

I've got a spare DOT so I'm thinking I might give this a try ...

Also might try to pick up one of these on next trip to the US - https://goroav.com/pages/viva or https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/591046 but I guess some of the functionality will be limited to use in the US only (like directions) ...
