Do you want the good news or the bad news?

When I was under 21 driving a Cooper S in the late 60's it was "it's your age sir"
Then when I approached my 30's in an RS 2000 it was "it's your age sir"
Along came my 40's and Saab Turbos "it's your age sir"

They are going to kick me in the vegetables and plunder my bank account next renewal when I try to renew the insurance on the 35is when I'll be 70
As you say no loyalty bonus or acceptance that I've been driving a performance car most of the time - my wife is a similar age and her car is also 300+ Bhp - I'll cut some costs and get her a bus pass

I agree with you entirely ronk - it's all a f*ckfest these days!

I got a good price from CKI on my Z4C in 2016, but when my E46 325ti came up for renewal in April 2017 they quoted me more than for my Z4C? How did they work that out? Allegedly because the 325ti "only" had 9 years No-Claims whereas the Z4C had 19 years!

Never mind, Saga came in way cheaper (I'm old) so that is where I went (although they are probably as rubbish as all the other providers)!

Back in the late 70s I worked for Cornhill Insurance (now part of Allianz) and the maximum entitlement for NCD was 7 years! Windscreen cover was free on comprehensive policies with no excess whether replaced or repaired. NCD protection was FREE if you had 6 years NCD and if you had one fault claim the premium didn't go up, you just lost your protection for a year. Whereas now you get to keep your "protection" that they charge you for (WHY), but still get stung with a loading instead!

General Insurance seems to be populated entirely by quote-monkeys with a script and no F*cking idea of what they are doing! (And I'd include our "Forum provider" in that description). :headbang:

Watched a report on insurance crime (no not the providers!) by our regional BBC TV for their late news. Apparently one in every 38 cars in our region is not insured - I can understand why. I know modern cars are expensive to repair (don't get me going on approved centres who up the labour costs and stop people going to private body shops - in some respect we all pay the price of our laziness and wanting a quick fix) but if insurance was less more people would buy it. Or am I just being stupid.

I went with Saga as they were much cheaper than Admiral multi car. While we had young drivers in the house, Admiral were a good deal cheaper, but then they started to get greedy so I swapped to Saga, saving many hundreds of £££'s
I think most insurance company offices must resemble a bingo hall and they just pluck what ever number comes out next. :|

You specialise in Z4's yet a 51 year old Advanced driver, getting the car out of an alarmed garage to do 3000 miles a year obviously isnt it, so what is?
You probably ARE the right profile of driver but without knowing who you are and looking at all your details I can't really comment on why we quoted what we did for this car - maybe it was more to do with your postcode or your occupation or... Maybe there was nothing amiss and we simply considered your alternative to be too cheap to compete with.

Your quote will have been based on our view (well, the insurers') of the risk presented but if you PM me your real name and postcode I can pull the quote and have a look for you. Then we can talk specifics. Happy to do that.

Thanks for the reply anyway Nick, I've highlighted the crux of your two comments...
1) The office obviously had all my details (I live in a respectable postcode and am a Security Consultant for Critical National Infrastructure)
2) So why aren't you as 'cheap' as my Admiral, when you claim to specialise in the Z4 market ?

I put it to you that you dont actually specialise in the Z4 market, but you are just on this forum touting for any business that you may be able to pick up. - Is that correct ?

We specialise in the car enthusiast and owners club market and have exclusive deals with insurers who are looking for this type of driver but clearly we're not going to be the best for 100% of all car club members in the UK - no one provider can ever claim that and nor would they want to cover absolutely everyone. The scheme is still based on risk and liability business calculations and we're working with a number of clubs and forums to access our chosen market.

I'm sorry if we can't help the occasional member but there's usually a good reason based on the risk presented.

I think there is a lot of new business, first year discounting going on in the insurance market at the moment. I recently bought an E85 3.0 and had previously been on classic insurance with a TVR S3 for the princely sum of £80 a year (5000 miles agreed value) TVR insurer wanted £350 for the Z so shopped around and was quoted happy with £148 (old git, cheap post code, 6000 miles)

that's what every insurer does, low price first year and a bump next year in the hope that the person is just going to ignore it/accept ;) if you shop around you'll always find a better deal.

I'd love to understand the business model they're using. I've changed insurer every year for the past 4 or 5 years to get a better deal. I often get a lower quote on a comparison website for the same company I'm already with! Proves they discount to capture new business but once all the people who can't be bothered to check how competitive their renewal price is and just accept auto renewal are locked into the various companies, I guess they're left with the rest who are going to swap every year to get another discounted price so where does discounting for new customers get them eventually? I wish they would just offer new and existing customers the best possible deal and save everyone the hassle

I think insurance companies miss a trick when they don't seem to appreciate brand loyalty - I think most of us who, if are not given a competitive quote, vote with our feet and go elsewhere.
Unless that's what they want us to do???
