Chris Knott Breakdown Cover . Is it good?

Looking at taking out a breakdown/ recovery plan for my wife's Z4 . AA have quoted me £163.50 for Home start roadside recovery and garage and parts.

Now I see Chris Knott has breakdown cover for only £54 ,but does not have garage and parts cover , which seems very good. Has anyone taken this cover out and had to use it and is it as good as AA/ RAC ect.

Is there any others people can recommend , your thoughts are much appreciated thank you

£79.50 green flag equivalent of Chris Knot . Who does every one lease use. I don't mind paying the money if it is value for money

I actually got my breakdown cover from BMW. It was £148 and included pretty much everything including 60 days European cover inclusive of vehicle repatriation, accommodation etc. the RAC wanted £225 for the equivalent.

Plus BMW will return the car to a BMW garage and not some unknown local place in some random place.

I personally thought it was worth it. Up to you to make your own decision though.

I assume with the BMW cover it has to be serviced at main dealers , which , with the age of the car (2003) I think may be not really worth it ,as I intend to get it serviced by local independent specialist

Nope. Besides thanks to the new EU ruling (actually doing something right), you are no longer beholden to a main dealer for servicing on the presumption that the garage you choose uses OEM or equivalent components in the servicing process.

It doesn't apply to the breakdown cover as it's not a warranty.

If it was the insured warranty then it would have to be serviced in accordance with whatever conditions you agreed to when you signed up.

The block exemption for new car/AUC warranties is because you don't have a choice in the matter, so they can't put unfair terms & conditions in place such as requiring you to only use BMW dealers. Although BMW 'goodwill' claims will be assessed accordingly based on service & maintenance history.

I currently have breakdown cover with http://www.autoaidbreakdown.co.uk/ (Autoaid).

It is a pay and claim so if you breakdown you call them and they send someone out. You then pay the recovery people and get an invoice/reciept. Then you fill out a form and send it off. They then send you a cheque and you get your money back.

I broke down in my focus last year (burst water pipe, ford part so he couldn't fix). Got towed home, paid the man, filled in the form, and got my money back a week or so later.

Its ridiculously cheap, and covers pretty much everything I think.
