Adrian Flux comedians

Post by angelom » Wed Feb 15, 2012 12:45 pm

I just sold my Z4 Alpina roadster S and moved to a Lexus is220d.
I was paying £680 to Adrian Flux ( 40 year old with 9 years no claims ), there were quite a few insurers that refused to insure me as they didn't have the Alpina listed in their database or insisted that it was an import.
The change in price going from the Alpina to the Lexus? £0 refund and a £25 admin fee.
When the insurance expires I will never be going back to Adrian Flux again and make sure that everyone I speak to about car insurance knows about this.

I had a very similar issue with AF a few years back.

They will never get my business nor recommendations again.

Let me first say that I'm no friend of Adrian Flux, and have threatened them with a firearm in the past (I was young), but maybe, just maybe, as a specialist insurer they're not competitive on standard cars?

They were good value with my modified Corrado VR6, but useless when I had a 520i.

They were useless when I needed documentation for a police check - as they claim to be holding them for my 'protection' - although it took 3 weeks and threats from the police before they'd fax me my cover note, which then only covered a one month period.

No different to Bell being good value (for me) for my Z4MC, but terrible value for my e34 M5s.

A mate of mine used to have his Renault 19 insured with them until it was written off. He'd said it was like they disappeared from existence as soon as he put the claim in. They always seem great value for specialist and modified cars, but sadly I've never heard good of them once they've got your money.

to mmm-five's point they are a specialist and a broker at that not an insurance company.

I wouldn't put a standard car near them, but you can insure a 6 litre V8 Jeep for around 10% of what a mainstream company would chanrge.

It's all about the right broker for the right risk.

Never had an issue, they saved me £800 on my renewal last year, and never had to claim from or call them for any other reason...

Stayed with Direct Line for now - just under £700, which is pricey, but I do a lot of miles and it's not garaged. Yet...

This may sound stupid, but some companies put prices up for garaged cars over driveway. The thread I read that in suggested you get a lot of claims as a result of crap driving and hitting the garage walls etc. Communal garages in blocks of flats etc probably don't help either if they're bundled in with garages by that insurer. They're usually bloody tight and you're surrounded by people who might not give a sh!t about their car.

That's correct they was a young guy on here who had an ///MR and his insurance company refused to insure it if he parked in a garage over night. I can't remenber the reason but I'm sure he posted about it on here.

Also when I was with Chris Knott I found out that 3rd party cover wasn't included as I was insuring a Roadster :? . They did add though FOC in the end as I needed to road test old bangers.

To have my car garaged is an extra £100 a year. I decided to "park it on the drive"
