Insurance Trends 2019

Has everyone noticed this year the trend seems to be to charge MORE for additional experienced drivers added to your policy rather than to reduce it? ie previously adding my mum and dad would reduce my cost, but now it adds cost..

Maybe its because I've turned 34 or because I've been driving 15 years / mrs 10 years?

Anyone else noticed this or other quirks. The whole garage vs driveway issue is still there (more expensive if garaged)..

I've seen it both ways in the last 6 months.
Took myself and the Mrs off the daughters (22) insurnace, one at a time, and it went down both times.
Took the Mrs off the Zed insurance and it went up.

Same, I've got 4 cars in the household and it's a constant game to tweak each policy, but I think age is definitely a factor. My wife used to bring down the price on any policy, but now she's passed a 'milestone' she shoves the premium up (not that I've dared mention it, I'm not stupid! :o )

Try this for a weird one, I LOWERED the excess on the policy and the premium went down! Give it a try it's worked on two of my policies, in one case the best quote was with a zero voluntary excess on another it made no difference. Also try tweaking mileage use, I found bumping it up/down by 5 or 8k miles sometimes made no difference within limits.

Depends on the car, the driver, the insurance company and day of the week as far as I can see :)
2003 2.5 SE, low miles, Sterling Grey, 108's & Eagles, no stubby here! Unmolested.

I just took myself of my 17yr old sons policy (I'm 53, perfect record and Advanced Driver qualification) He's only been driving 3 months. The premium went down £46 !!

I asked why and they said statistically named drivers have more accidents than Policy Holders.
May be true in essence but they're hardly analysing the risk individually are they !

I also tried to add my 20 year daughter onto the Z4 policy for her only to drive when supervised (On the basis she could experience a more powerful car under a watchful eye) They weren't having any of it, but were happy to add her on alone at an extra £250/year.

Why dont Companies encourage this rather than just let them loose on their own ?

After the SORN thing this week nothing surprises me.

Do have to say that admiral multicar policy is good for adding an additional car for only a few months without serious penalties that a new policy would attract.
