Saris bones, €90. no brainer?
saris bones 2.jpg
Im currently looking for a bike rack also. Any idea how the saris bones would fit on a roadster? Where would the straps go to hold the rack in place?
I fitted my saris bones to my e85 the other day for the first time when doing the bostin sportive in uttoxeter. The straps fitted on the top and bottom of lid as you would expect. The side straps i fitted on the lower side of the lid to the side of the reversing light. Wish i had taken a picture now as it would have been easier to explain.
It didn't move at all on a near 100 mile round trip down all sorts of roads and at high speeds too. Plus if positioned correctly doesnt cover number plate or lights so does not need a light board . Overall i was really impressed.

My mate paid £3k for his ex missus rack.. but that failed - lesson.. just because it's expensive doesn't mean it works...

However.. I will need to get a Saris bones soon as we are getting rid of our SEAT - Can someone tell me the Max weight / bike size for it as I need to get this beast on there (17KG's and big forks + wide bars)

just had a fiddle about and seems to fit like a glove and is rock solid.
and silly me- it seems i actually bagged a saris 3, not 2. didnt notice the extra 3rd set of binders! *chortle* fringe benefits- can carry a spare bike now

tip: to protect the lovely paintwork i use a cut up sheet of that silicone rubber matting u can get cheaply to place between the 4 feet and paint as i think the rubber used for the feet is pretty hard and thereby prone to rubbing/scratching. the mat is a nice waffle texture and very compressible. make sure the paint and the rubber matting is squeaky clean ofc.

for the hooks i placed some old cut-up sections of biketyre innertube around them, again in order to protect the paint.
I might have a further fiddle about and lower the carrier arm a bit as i think the bike sits a bit high once mounted.

I have a Saris Bones 3 and quite impressed, used it on my 530i & E-Class but never tried on my Zed.

The lower 2 feet don't move so less chance of rubbing, the upper two feet don't take much weight so can be prone to rubbing. I tried cloths but after 50 miles they blew away. Then I used magnetic GB stickers which was much easier however when I got the E-Class they wouldn't stick as the boot is made of aluminium instead of steel :headbang: Look at this sophisticated video I made:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3VEPAuL2aU

I have some of that rubber matting stuff so might try that myself and create a 'sock' for the feet so it doesn't blow away.

I like the inner tube idea for the clips. They haven't caused any damage yet but it is a risk.

It's a pain but I normally drop the seat post and drop the forks out of the head tube and cram my roady in the boot, need a plastic bag to cover the greasy head tube and a bag for the steerer tube

Nice bike mate !

Using a saris with this you will need a top bar similar to this, you may have one already not sure

Also what I did with mine just to protect the paintwork was buy some pipe cladding from BandQ and cut it along the seam just wrapped it around the bike frame in places to protect. Worked a treat

Weight wise for a full sus I would not really worry too much. It was fine

Hi lads,

Sorry for digging up an old topic! Need to do this as well, was looking at getting a Saris Solo ( Like thisone: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Saris-102-MOCS ... 00DNL4C16/).

Anyone tried using a solo? Only have the one bike so if I could avoid spending 120 quid + for a Saris 2 or 3 that would be ideal.

Thanks!

Never used one myself but here is a link showing one fitted. If it were me i would remove the wheels and put them in the boot. They look far too close to the road for my liking.
