Did something really important today-

I fixed something WITHOUT asking for help on here!

I dislodged the microswitch in the boot- took it out, fixed it and replaced- all sorted!

It's been an expensive month for the Z4, though I love the thing. After seeing my insurance premium double to £1,300 just for moving postcode (less than 5 miles within London), I have now fitted two new rear tyres (rears were at 3mm) and got an oil service done (at IndyTech, my local BMW specialist in East London). This was after having the front bake callipers replaced (they kept seizing, I have the old ones and will get them refurbed and painted at some point) together with new pads and discs only a few weeks ago.

Some might baulk at paying £30 for labour on an oil change, but for me it is useful to build rapport with a new indy and figure out if I can trust them should it need major work down the line. I also don't have a driveway, and the car is my daily. IndyTech have been great (both for the callipers and basic work like an oil change).

Shout out to Opie Oills who supplied the oil and filter. Unfortunately they sent me the wrong filter, but they duly refunded the price I had to pay at the independent (£11).

Thank goodness I don't live in London like @Jameszy having to pay 1.3k for insurance.
I bought the 2.5 last year to add to the Z3 we have and shopped around for insurance ended up going with Lancaster for £183 Fully Comp no extras which was the best I could find. One year on got an invite to renew at £183.90, studied the paperwork and saw that they include an arrangement fee of £49 in that price. Went on all the well known comparison sites and they came back with many options, Lancaster the cheapest on each site but at differing prices based on same info entered, found Confused.com came back with a bargain £125 Fully Comp. I was intending to phone their renewals and ask why the massive difference from their renewal price and new business via Confused.com, however the phone rang a short while later and it was Lancaster asking if I was interested in the £125 quote I had on Confused.com. I quickly pointed out I was an exhisting customer and the renewal I had received was well in excess of what was quoted on confused.com. I was extreamly interested in taking up the £125 quote, answered a few questions and duly paid the premium at £125, documents followed via email within a short time.
I would add that I did enquire with Chris Knott Insurance who is on this forum but they could only offer insurance around the £200 mark so that was a dead end for me.
Currently age 67 and 1 year NCD on the Z4, living in South Wales, limited mileage of 3k annually.

Always pays to do your homework before taking out insurance certainly did this year for me.

Picked up a set of refurbed Style 230’s with 235/35ZR19 Pirelli Dragon Sports front and 255/30ZR19 P Zero’s on the rear all with about 60% tread remaining. AUD$1000. Reasonable I think. Also removed the drivers side dash vent and repaired cup holder which had detached itself. Unfortunately the lower speed nut and plastic broke away. It’s been glued previously so will need a repair. Does anything ever go to plan?!!
The 230 is a winner on Zs but the tyre sizes fitted you have upsized the front tyres ( 235 35 19 on 8j rim ) yet not the rears when you would have been better doing the reverse :?

a 255 35 or 245 35 on rear would have been a better fit re closing arch gap , comfort & wheel protection

Yep it was an expense I hadn’t expected when buying a house, but not the end of the world. I would be lying if I didn’t have a fleeting thought about insuring at a different property we have in the South West, but it’s sadly completely illegal.

Hopefully in a few years after I’ve got some no claims and passed the age of 30 it should come down!

Yes agreed. Tyres came on rims. Will change rears for better size soon.

Coated a set of 108’s in Gtechniq C5, used under 1/4 of the bottle to do all surfaces... still in the kitchen curing!

Not sure if I’m going to use them or not yet, but they were refurbished at great expense by the previous owner and I was wheel-less, and they’re minty-mint, ....so I thought they’d make a handy stop gap if I needed to be able to get the Z mobile and out of the garage :D

Washed and waxed the rear boot lid. Loads of wax, left an hour then again, and again. Might Plasti-dip next weekend.

The LHS Headlight is now properly duff, It is letting in water and looks really naff.

That explains the a local tale. The Beast of Bodmin. It roamed the moors for years and then mysteriously vanished, so the legend goes. :o

Obvious to me now. They where talking about your E-type. :D

I fitted a full set of MTEC drilled discs and Mintex pads

Don't worry, wheels were included in the wash later!
