DISA Valve repair.
ZERO signs of failure, it was actually fully operational.
However... The engine destroyer pin was JUST ABOUT TO FALL OFF OF IT! Completely, I mean, completely loose.
Don't wait until you have signs of a bad DISA, just fix it. I used the X8R kit, was perfect.

Hi - could you point in the direction of which cars/ engines this is likely to affect please? (Or is it all?) I’d like to be proactive but not sure if it is relevant for my car.fernando306 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 26, 2020 6:29 am DISA Valve repair.

Same here is the DISA E89 specific?
Went for a boxingday run with my mates M140I up to Dartmoor, bit slippy then at 1000 ish it got busy. still good to get the Z out, still a lot to learn especially when its above 4k rpm.

Replaced the rocker cover gasket this afternoon. Was a bit of a mare getting it unstuck. The gasket stayed stuck to the head when the cover eventually came off. Found the cam sensor and plug had a slight bit of oil in the bottom, so cleaned and dried with contact cleaner and an airline. Refitted it and put all back together. Fired up after doing 2 ignition resets and on cold start with the faster idle was smooth. When it settled, it seemed to be a little lumpy. Found I hadn't screwed the oil cap on properly , so screwed tight. I had the engine cover off for leaks ,hence the loose cap. Saw no leaks , so refitted the cover. Engine back on cold start and runs well. Then a little lumpy but only ran in garage. Runs turbine smooth with a few revs. Hoping its the eccentric motor needing a run down the road to sort itself out ? Otherwise if seems OK but any ideas on the idle. Only ran for about 3 mins.

I know for a fact that it will affect at least the engines that are similar to the M54, like the BMWs X3, X5, 325i, 328i, 330i from the same generation of my 2004 car. I don't think it affects your newer model, but I would do some research anyway.ProfCJJ wrote: ↑Sat Dec 26, 2020 2:40 pmHi - could you point in the direction of which cars/ engines this is likely to affect please? More of what I did yesterday but in the nick of time. I had noticed that during heavy rain a little water would trickle from underneath the door kick trim. Anyway, I removed the trim and the rubber seal, inspected and cleaned where needed and refitted. I made sure there were no kinks along the rubber.
With the crap weather the heavens opened during the early hours for a long time. With fingers crossed, I checked the carpet later in the morning and it was bone dry. Very pleased. Had a similar issue on the driver's side years ago and with the same fix, that is what led me straight to removing and re-seating the seal. Hopefully this might help someone before they spend £80 or so on a new seal. Happy New Year folks.

Just a quick wash...........
People are always shocked to see this just because it’s a bit cold!
It must be a Z4 owners thing

What have you done to your car today?
Had it recovered home on the back of a flatbed after my starter motor apparently gave up the ghost with zero warning. Went to pick up the takeaway last night, started fine, 15 minute drive, engine off to pick up the food then just nothing when I tried to restart. All the electrics seem to be fine but no turnover.
Spent an hour waiting for the AA/local recovery; first boy who turned up tried the ‘hitting it’ solution but no dice, so a flatbed was ordered. Going to look into things today but I’m pretty sure it just needs a new starter, going by the other threads on here.
