Replaced the key battery, now I can lock/unlock the car from a distance again!

Here’s a video on how to do it.

This weekend I:
1. replaced the valve cover gasket, took about 2 hours.
2. Replaced the oil filter housing gasket and while I was in there…
3. Replaced the ccv without removing the inlet manifold. Both jobs together took about 5 hours taking my time and going carefully.

All 3 jobs were much easier after watching the great videos by ‘50sKid’ on YouTube. I used the Febi-Bilstein replacement parts.

It actually feels like it is running smoother now. The ccv was gunked up with yellow sludge. interestingly before I did the job, taking the oil filler cap off with car running made no difference, now it makes the idle rough, which is more what I’d expect.

First differential oil change. After 16 years and 90 000 kms the oil was darkish but not black and there was some metallic sludge on the non-magnetic plug.

So got some of my own photos today on a wee run out with my boy. Got rid of the awful 'M' grille badge, sorted some weak washer jets (usual sludge blocking the filter in the washer reservoir), cleaned the hood with Meguiars Soft Top cleaner and it came up a treat, will need a second pass as I missed a few bits but made a huge difference. Started cleaning/detailing the engine bay too. Then washed it and gave it a quick coat of Fast Wax. Got a m8 who does paint correction so a machine polish and ceramic coating is on the cards shortly.

I just purchased my Z4. I have been pressing the button but hear no locking/unlocking sound or the side light flash. My car only unlocks the doors if I'm within close proximity. Do you think the internal battery is dead?

Couldn't wait, curiosity got the better of me. They sent M14 bolts instead of M12. Just to top everything off so using old ones until new arrive. I'm quite happy with them :-D :-D
Don't know if anyone else has commented on these - but I think they look fantastic! Great choice

My new 70mm bonnet badge arrived today so planning on replacing mine at the weekend. Is it just a case of removing one of the kidney grilles, using a 10mm socket on the securing nuts then swapping the badges over? Ta.

Yes that's how I did mine, but the nuts are a bit fiddly to get on as they cut a thread onto the plastic posts on the new badge.

I've put a tiniest bit of silicone under the new badge, probably not necessary, but it would hurt to loose such an expensive piece of plastic :D

Didn't have any silicone to hand so used a couple of small strips of thin 3M trim tape underneath the badge. The old nuts were tricky to remove but got them off eventually. Chuffed with the results, new badge and old badge below:-
