I think you are all comparing E85/86 sport mode settings with E89Marlon wrote: ↑Sat Jan 20, 2018 9:42 pmBased on Steve84N's experience I've been driving around this weekend not in sport mode and am quite enjoying itNanu wrote: ↑Sat Jan 20, 2018 8:52 pmI find the main difference in the steering between sport and comfort is when on the motorway. I drive around in Sport mode all the time - every journey is ignition on and button pressed. I prefer the lighter more responsive throttle response, however, I cant really notice any difference in the steering.
My understanding it that the steering feel is supposed to change in Sport mode - tighten up / heavier?
Leaving aside the throttle response, are you saying that you prefer the feel of the steering when not in Sport mode?

Why?
Everyone but Rob's post was from e85/e86 owners, plus he's had one too.
The comments are all valid and I'm baffled by yours...
Glad you're enjoying it Marlon, I was pleasantly surprised and sounds like you are too. There are still times when I used Sport, motorway was one as there no steering to be done really and you can use much smaller ankle movements. Ultimate laziness!

So Nanu was referring to a E85 E86 was he ?
I found the sport button on Si E85 E86 had a different effect to the sport button on my 23i & 35i , that's why i offered the comment , i do apologise if that baffled you so much

So I missed the other E89 comment but the topic was raised from an e86 driver and there are far more replies from e85/e86 owners than e89. Hence, it's odd to imply we all have crossed wires.
Probably best we just agree to disagree as you often find little difference in the feel of things on a car compared to others.

Nope.
Nanu was definitely replying talking about his E89. People are getting their wires crossed as there has been responses to what he said about his e89 and comparing it to their e85/86. No need to get baffled.

I hadn't actually read the previous pages where it had been discussed , just saw Marlon / Nanu & yourself discussing .
As a car owner you would expect the sport button to perform the same across the whole Bmw range however that isn't the case .
Of the Zs ive owned Si E85 E86 (auto + 6spd ) ///M E85 + the 23i /35i i found varying affects to throttle , steering & exhaust tone dependent on model . Never experienced any affect to suspension but ive not had a car with adaptive ride

Car design moves on and so it's not really unexpected that it doesn't work in exactly the same way.
This is the e85/e86 discussion area so the only confused people are the e89 owners. The discussion we were having we each knew what we were replying to.

Done some research, and it seems there's an issue with the design of the Meyle HD rear top mounts. Now, these symptoms sound identical to my slight knock since changing the suspension, so have ordered a pair of Lemforder parts to try next weekend and see if it was in fact faulty designed parts.

I wouldn't be surprised if knocking was coming from rear top mounts either.
I tried some Turner ones and they came off shortly afterwards only to find the inner metal sleeve was bent. I believe they have a flawed design where the metal tube isn't long enough compared to the rubber part so it didn't clamp together properly.
I replaced them with Meyle HD and it was much better but after a while there was still some knocking which wasn't there on the original mounts...

It's more the irritation that I changed everything and that created noises that weren't there previously! Especially if a new part is indeed causing the issue. Bolts are as tight as they can be when I installed, and the noise started almost immediately.

I know the feeling...
They say the OEM part is a weak point but to be honest it was fine when I took it off. The front top mount had split though.

I used the lemforder ones when I did mine after reading about the design flaws with the Meyle HD and others. They've been fine with no noises etc but then again they have only been on about a month. The originals were still fine though after twelve years and could really have gone back on. Unlike the shocks that were well and truly fubarred!

I've used plenty of other Meyle parts and they've been spot on, so it didn't occur to me that they might be a bad part. Anyway, you live and learn, and if it costs £25 to sort out this damned rattle then I'm happy to pay it...
