When I bought my coupe in 2012 it was off the back of a pistonheads advert with no pictures which had been listed a few hours earlier.

I rang to enquire and they stated they had just had the car in and hadnt even had a chance to wash it yet. I didnt care as I was interested in the gearbox / spec / colour combo and it ticked almost all my boxes. When I did go to see it, they had washed it but it had a broken glovebox, dings in the rear arch, and a few unsightly chips and scratches that were fixable. I didnt care.

It was well overpriced at £16k. I offered what I wanted to pay for it there and then (this was the Saturday after they got the car so probably about 3 days later) and they rejected my £14.5K offer. 2 months later I bought the car for my initial offer price all tarted up of course. :D

Big Tav wrote: Sun Jan 14, 2018 3:13 pmI used to work for BMW and they always used to do this at my Dealership. It drove me crazy as it never showed the car in it's best light and we had to do all the photo's twice. I used to complain but it fell on deaf ears. The bosses just wanted to get the enquires and have as many cars online as possible.

It was up to the salesmen then do deal with the problem questions, why presented like that, looks untidy, why isn't the car ready for test drive if it's on the website (because it's at the body shop getting the wheels done and the bumpers painted for 2 weeks!) etc

I can understand they want people to know about new stock as soon as is possible, but crappy pics aren't going to help sell things really. I can only imagine the amount of needless frustration this caused for the sales staff, especially if there were enquiries about cars which weren't even ready to test drive.
I think also that if you see a car which is looking sub par at a dealer, it shows them in a poor light from the start, especially as they will be asking top price, and it makes you a bit suspicious.

In the end, I was delighted with my car, and felt I'd done well, especially as the price came down because they'd had it so long. If they'd put up pics of the car after they had worked on it, I'm sure someone would have snapped it up, and I'd probably not even have known they'd had it for sale.

Rare red coupe on low miles and at a good price. Shame about the SE interior.

Shame it's an SE. Not sure about red...you lose the contrast with the rear lights.

Stop it - I'd love a red Coupe!

Mind you compared to Marlon's that one looks a bit pink - maybe it's just the photos.

But it has a fairly basic spec. so I'll fight the urge. :)

Haha! Yeah maybe it's the pink pictures that don't do it justice.

I just like a colour.

It's almost like BMW chose their colour options for E86s after watching too much 60s TV - any shade of black or grey you want!

That's why I went for Montego Blue, but I'd have happily considered red or Phoenix Yellow. :)

I don't mind the red.
It's the SE interior and the black wheels that I don't like.

Back up again , pretty sure it was for sale late summer last year , looks a great example & asking £9500 for a silver navspec 59k Sport coupe is not exactly greedy https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified ... New&page=3

Its actually rich pickings out there right now for prospective buyers of 3.0 E86s , along with the silver car above there are 2 other 60k examples both at dealers for ask price of £9500 so possible driveaway closer to £9k :? very fair money if the cars tick out on calling / viewing
