If you're staying with the stock rear axle/rear subframe (and thus are bound to a 188k diff) the shortest ratio you can get is a 3.73:1.
That is fitted on the US only 3.0i facelift automatic (so the US only downtuned n52 engine).
I dont know if there's an lsd for that ratio (different ratio's sometimes need different lsd's because of the different offset of the crown gear flange)

What surface treatment is that? Looks like some kind of passivation? (like CrIII like they do on zinc etc)

Surface treatment is something called NEDOX, gives a hard surface with very low friction, it's used a lot by scania and volvo in there truck engines.
