Lets more noise from the engine into the cabin,

the foam is just a noise baffle, and with them removed you get a noticbly louder engine sound inside

ah right, where is this bit? i find with my 3.0l i get an annoying sound at certain revs. it really resonates in your ear and can be a little unpleasant. not sure i want more noise but maybe the lack of foam will change it a bit. cheers

Open the bonnet, left hand side, follow up from the air box

the intake pipe work has a bit that splits off, this is the sound generator see pic. Image

It has a jublie clip at the front that needs undoing, and clip below it that needs undoing,

the part that goes to the bulk head pulls out

With it out, pull it apart (pussh fittings) there is two bits of foam, remove one or both

depending on which one you remove the sound can be tailored to what you want

still trying to figure out what the CDV. putting it into the search gives me no resopnces
1st 1,a well documented topic on here..as adamski would say/its been done to death,lol..alot of ppl do it,but some(like myself)dont see the need. each to their own.

As for th cdv..its the CLUTCH DELAY VALVE.
You can get a modified one of these,or modify it yourself. available from the likes of zeckhausen, which improves/gets rid of the jerky change you can get between 1st/2nd gears.
BMW over-engineered the car with this being fitted,as it cures a problem that doesnt exist/ie makes bad drivers able to change gear, haha.
It causes jerkiness in lower gearchanges, almost making the car die on you inbetween gears at times...SO A MODIFIED CDV IS A GOOD MOD(Basically a blanked off cdv)and easy to install

I've read on a number of boards that the CDV can simply be removed at the hoses connected directly, without a modified valve. What's the benefit to modding the valve instead of removing it?

A modified valve is only for if you still have a bmw warenty,

ie. still new So personally i would bother putting a modified one back in just connect the hoses back up

^ X2. Done the CDV removal to two different Z's meanwhile and driven over 70,000 km since (the two of them combined): works perfectly fine.

Love the steering wheel and the seats!!

Have the say the standard seats are very disappointing when you turn into a corner. A slightly younger Hyundai has better lateral support...
