16" Wheels For Winter - Will these fit a '57 3.0si?
Had some problems in the snow last year and have been reading some of the 16" wheel threads on here and I like the idea of changing out my 108s for something with snow/winter tyres on.
I understand there may be some caliper clearance considerations with smaller wheels and wondered if anyone knows if these will fit?
Obviously the 108's I'm running at the moment are wider at the back, will this cause any problems with this wheel? I assume the wider profile is to get better grip, but is there anything else to it?

Sorry, but you're brakes are too big, at the front. You'll be needing 17s... Peddy has some he's selling at the moment that may be worth a look, 103s, same one's I have set aside for mine .
Actually, you've got an Si Sport with nice big brakes, so I won't feel too sorry for you. Same would apply to a space saver if you ditch the run flats and go that route.

Thanks for the response, I thought that might be the answer, glad I checked.
I found these on eBay, with 22 hours left at a tenner!

Hmmm, how important is it to like the wheels you buy for snow?
Not keen on the 103s.

We won't know how important it is to you.SpaceCoyote wrote:Hmmm, how important is it to like the wheels you buy for snow?
Might depend whether it's your daily drive or not.
If they're on from November to March, that's nearly half the year.
My Z is my only car, so I think I'm coming down on the side of wanting some nice looking winter wheels

Don't rule out later 3 series wheels - m44rrt has some on his, look really good, sort of Alpina style

I was bidding on these wheels as well, would these (or similar 16"'s) be suitable for 2004 2.5 with 18" 108's?SpaceCoyote wrote:Had some problems in the snow last year and have been reading some of the 16" wheel threads on here and I like the idea of changing out my 108s for something with snow/winter tyres on.

Really like the look of these wheels. Will have to start looking.PawnSacrifice wrote:Don't rule out later 3 series wheels - m44rrt has some on his, look really good, sort of Alpina style
EDIT:
Any guides on working out what size tyres I'll need to get the same size as the current wheels?

Easiest way to get the profile is to check your owners manual and look at the profile for the 17" Wheels, IIRC, it's 45 - 225/45 R17. The width, if you go with BMW OEM wheels, it is likely to remain 225, but just check the width of the wheel - 8inch would be 225. Obviously the size would be 17.SpaceCoyote wrote: Really like the look of these wheels. Will have to start looking.

For the 17 X 8 inch wheels above 225/45-17 will work just fine for winter tires...

What's the deal with BM Autosport? Is it a classifieds type thing?
Also, any suggestions on winter tyres? I've never bought seasonal tyres and would usually go with either Michelin or Vredestein.

I read about caliper clearance considerations too. I have, however, a 2005 3.0i with the 16-inch 102s. They do fit fine (double checked with my dealer) and there has been no issues with accumulating ice within the wheels. As a bonus they're easy to clean. I've found out that Scandinavian spec'd Z4s have some differences to the UK ones (apart from LHD), but haven't read about differences in brake calipers. Higher profile and narrow tyres generally result in better grip on snow and ice.SpaceCoyote wrote: I understand there may be some caliper clearance considerations with smaller wheels and wondered if anyone knows if these will fit?
