E86 central roof bulbs.

Post by Meds » Mon Nov 20, 2023 11:32 pm

My E86 has 'upgraded' interior bulbs.. I don't like them. 😞
They're icy cold/white/blue colour, the central one between the map reading lights is blindingly bright and a little flickery.
I've replaced 2 of the other bulbs as they flicker sometimes, and they still flicker occasionally.
The bulbs I replaced are apparently error and flicker free.

I'd like to swap them out for the normal, boring, un-fashionable amber bulbs, but I cant seem to find them after a quick google. They all seem to be LED or ice blue.

Are the original bulbs no longer available?

12V C5W 5W is the horizontal bulbs, for glove box, footwell and so on.

For the centre light, it uses the standard vertical bulbs. 12V 5W.

Not fully sure about the fitment but hopefully someone else can chime in.

Thanks for this.
That fitment is very different from what the LED bulb has, though.
The LED is like a push in 'slot' type connector.

Looks like 63217160908, available from BMW (e.g. here) if you can't find cheaper elsewhere.

Think it's a T10 wedge base, to help your search.

This is the one! The actual factory OEM spec one too, I thought nobody knew about these lol. Usually, most people put in a standard W5W 194 bulb when they replace that map light when it burns out.

The 12V6WX bulb is actually brighter than the footwell 194 W5W bulbs as it's 6W and filled with xenon gas, to make it look a bit whiter but still warm and bright! Very luxurious look to the interior IMO. BMW always came with great interior lighting from the factory!

All my interior bulbs haven been swapped for blue/white LEDs.
The footwell lights will probably stay as they are, they don't blind me (but they do flicker a tiny bit occasionally)
I can leave the individual map lights as they're never used.
But the central one needs to go as its flickering and stupid bright.

I'll get that guy ordered.
Thanks for your help, chaps.

This has been installed.
What a difference ! It's now a lovely warm white glow rather than a piercing cold blue icy white blast.
Night and bright, too, but without being hard on the eyes like the LED's seem to be.
