Sun visors

Post by aqua0 » Tue Sep 21, 2021 1:23 pm

Hi all.

Quick question - has anyone come across some aftermarket sun visors that go up and over the front windscreen - similar to the merc or MX5 ones? I've tried moving the seat etc to solve the issue of the sun blasting me in the eyes, but without much success unless I drop the seat almost too the floor, and that doesn't make my life easier given I'm a short ar*e :D

I find it worse coming in from the side. Most cars allow for the sun visor to twist 90 degrees but not the z4. Not sure about other convertibles
3.0si roadster. Requisite stubby. Sound gen mod. LED numberplate lights. LED boot strip. Interior lights LED too. ZHP gearknob. Daily drive :driving:
Motor in boot. Bilstein B8 dampers. New radio, much better sounds

This is the sort of thing I was thinking of, the visors rotate at the top rather than the bottom like they currently do.
It's the sun coming in above the top of the windscreen that's the issue, and I'm just not a fan of baseball caps :P

Ah, so it's the mounting/pivot point that's the issue!!!

Never had that problem in the coupe :poke:

I suppose in your case, you could use the ones in the second photo, but just fit them upside down, so you can pull the shade upwards when the roof is down? Of course, you'd have to find one that will fit the mini-visor that the Z4 has.

Yup, finding a replacement is where the problem is, hence my initial shout out 8)

But it's not just a replacement, longer visor is it...you'll need to put new mounts in a different position in the window-frame...ensuring they didn't foul the roof when you want to close it.

If you're going that far, then I'm sure just about any larger, top-mounted option will suffice, as there won't be anything 'off the shelf' for such a bespoke item.

If course, if the sun is that much of a concern, I'd suggest putting the top up or wearing sunglasses/sunblock :P

That’s exactly what I was trying to find out - if there was an ‘off the shelf’ option.
Still hopeful …..
My roof is off summer and winter as long as the sun is shining, I’m just a bit old fashioned and would prefer to be able to see :P
