When the light appears showing you need a top up, whats the consensus on quantity of 5w30?

I've always understood it means you need to add a litre to an N52 engine.

Thanks for responding. Yes, that was my first instinct, however I’ve seen others saying you only need to add around 500ml otherwise you overfill.

If BMW are happy for it to run 1l low before you top up, then putting in 500-750ml means you have peace of mind that it's not too full but it is still full enough.

Always happy to help if I can.

If the forum helped you, why not help the forum back. Thats the Z4 way!

To be fair I got into the habit of checking the oil level on N52 engines each time I used the car - partly to be sure the level sensor was working but also because it only worked once the engine was warmed up so once I got a reading I knew I could give it some stick!

If it was down to the first of the 4 markings I'd put 500ml in, rather than wait until I got the low level warning.
