Front Sport anti roll bar bushes

Post by veryverydarkblue » Mon Jul 26, 2021 12:05 pm

I have a suspension refresh due on my E85 3.0 SI sport, which I sourced the parts through Autodoc encompassing springs, shocks, bump stops, top mounts, drop links, RTABs, Lollipops. I was also hoping to get the anti roll bar bushes changed at the same time, however front sport ARB bushes seem to be as rare as rocking horse poop i.e. for a 25mm (sport) rather than 24mm (non-sport) ARB. BMW part #31306779487

Has anyone managed to source these recently, or found compatible alternatives, other than powerflex?

I think the PN you need is #31351096365. You may have copied the wrong one above. If so, they are available direct from BMW for around £18 each. Below is the genuine BMW parts site, but you usually get it slightly cheaper by ringing your local BMW dealer and they can often get it within a day or two.

I did wonder whether the 24mm would be broadly fine, given that some brands seemed to spec the rears undersized (i.e. 18mm bush for 19mm bar). There’s also ones for 24.6mm e46 bars available (3135109271) which would probably be even closer (Some of which are even marketed as 25mm).

Anyway, order now in with Battersea for the correct ones, albeit for more than I wanted to pay!

I took mine off and found the bar was really badly corroded and pitted only on the drivers side weirdly. Managed to source an unmarked replacement sport one and had it repowdercoated. I suspect that the bushes as standard being non- greased had caused a water well of corrosion in there. Be interesting if yours is the same. I fitted and greased powerflex ones with new Meyle HD drop links to finish the update and has been totally fine .

How are the powerflex ARB bushes on the road?
I know replacing some of the bushes with powerflex can produce a harsh ride.

They have been totally fine. When I stripped the old bushes off, they were oval and very flimsy and actually squeaked. The powerflex I have fitted I know I wont go back to standard bushes. If I do have to grease them, is a 10 min job with the undertray off, so no big hardship.

I tend to spray the bushes with silicone spray if I have the wheels off. Not sure if this is a good thing to be honest, but doesn't have any bad effects.

Judging by what I saw on my bushes, anything to lube and prevent water ingress and stop corrosion is definitely worth a squirt of something
