Automatic Gearbox type for E86, 2007,265hp

Post by 6cylinder » Fri Jul 23, 2021 4:27 pm

Hi

I am looking to buy a Z4, 2007,265hp with automatic gearbox.

I am looking for some insight in the automatic gearbox.
What kind of gearbox do it have? /double clutch?
Is it fast shifting?

Cheers

Welcome aboard.
Not certain but I believe its a standard auto box.
As for fast shifting, well I'm sure you wouldn't buy it without a test drive anyway, so you can see for yourself.
Good luck with your purchase.

Thanks Enuff

I am buying it abroad and don't have the possibility to test drive it. Will be brought to me with by a transport company if I buy it. That is why I am asking 8)

Ah ok then.
Wifey has a 2.5i with an auto box. It isn't lightning fast like the DCT boxes are, but it also isn't slow and clunky like older types. Gets better when its warmed up.

Sounds good.

I am used to a sportscar with manuel, so it is new territory for me. I will use it mostly for tempo rides on small twisty roads, loved those 😎

My auto box changes gear really quickly. Using the paddles is really quick too.

Welcome to the forum anyway.

It looks like the automatic 3.0Si has a 6-speed ZF with paddles - and people with them seem to like them!

My 3.0Sis were both manuals so I can't comment, but it's a great engine.
Coupes because stunning!

As Mr Tidy points out it’s the ZF6HP19

It was the first in the modern dynasty of ‘non slush’ auto boxes..

A radical new design that pioneered a number of concepts that the current 8HP family that is the ubiquitous de-facto in line auto box for all the prestige marks.

The shift speed is 600ms which DCT box fans pooh pooh but it’s in most people’s mind ok..you can re-program it to shift faster..

Great box..probably do an oil n filter change which will do no harm…

Guys. The Z4 has been bought.
The initial I was looking at didn't go all the way but a new one puppep up.
Lower mileage, newer and same price. 😍😎

It sounds mega, pulls hard and drives fantastic.
