Does it partly open, or not at all? Sometimes one of the wires in the loom that runs over the passenger window can break.

As Zedebee says, one of the wires running inside the roof could have broken meaning the roof control module doesn't know where the roof is. It's becoming a more common issue on our older roadsters.

Did it work at all after you fitted the new motor? Not missed a connection or something?
Was it this issue that made you swap the motor?
Would be quite a coincidence for something to fail when you swap the motor, so maybe you disturbed something?

My loom broke by the passenger window after half lowering the roof one time. Had to cut through the mesh sheath to see the snapped cable, then solder it back together with a new length of wire in-between.

Mate that sounds like the issue I had- which was a micro break in the loom running from the motor up the passenger side to the roof top where the unlatch mechs are

The motor for the mini one is the same, but the pump part is different.
I am after one to “borrow” to try and prove a fault, but they are like rocking horse s**t
There’s a guy near me breaking 3 E85 Z4’s and the first thing gone off all of them was the roof motor/pump
