rear main seal leak

Post by Strategy » Sat Jun 12, 2021 8:50 am

I have a salvage 2.5 e85 with 126k miles.
I haven't had any issues with it for the past year except for a small oil leak that i had fixed. But last week all of the oil drained onto my driveway over night. And the mechanic says i have a rear main seal leak, and its gonna run me $877 to fix.
Worth to fix?

rear main seal leak

Would have thought it wasnt the rear main seal as they sit above the oil level. For something to siphon all the oil out would be something with a permanent oil supply, such as an oil cooler or similar or a sump crack, unless you live on a drive at 45 degreees plus . Just my thoughts...................

I’d make sure it was the RMS first but yes, I’d say worth fixing.
