Metallic Rattling

Post by skmattwell » Sat Jun 12, 2021 12:56 am

Hi everyone, I'm most likely going to have to pay for a proper diagnosis, but asking here first in case it's a common issue.

I'm getting a loud metallic rattle from the left side of the car, I think near the front wheel but can't be certain. Definitely a metallic sound, almost like a loose heat shield. Presents itself over almost ever bump in the road.

Any ideas? Garage suggested a loose caliper?

Metallic Rattling

I had a metallic rattling that I thought was a loose heat shield or exhaust. Turned out to be a snapped spring and the two pieces were rattling together

Had a similar noise and it was the brake disk dust shield.

The holes the retaining bolts go through corrode and widen allowing it to move, a couple of washers sorted it out.

If it’s not the dust shield as above it might be the tension clip on the brake caliper. I didn’t refit mine properly after putting on new discs and pads and it sounded like I was dragging a bunch of spanners behind the car.

Most likely the dust shield, mine has just started to do the same.
