Airbag Warning Lights

Post by Ratcatcher » Mon Jun 07, 2021 9:16 am

Despite following the 'battery off, do work, reconnect battery' procedure i seem to have inadvertently set off my airbag warning light. What are my options for clearing it? Ive rechecked my work and made sure the airbag connections are all secure so im at a loss as to why its happened.

But before i go to the dealers, are these any good?

My local garage reset mine for me without any problems. He's not a specialist in any particular make of vehicle. Bound to be cheaper than going to the stealers. Or, if there's anyone with Carly near you I believe that can sort it.

Based on the advice on here, ive already bought one of these and very helpful it was too in clearing other codes but it doesnt seem to be able to access the airbag menu. A quick reading on the internet seems to show the airbags are done under a different code and although i tried with this scanner i couldnt clear the light.

Edit : just read the description underneath that ad and it quite clearly says airbag fault light. Im going to have another go right now!

This was my next port of call. Hes been good to me so far with my other car and he's happy to plug in the Snap on scanner for £10 in the tea jar.

PS Carly? Sorry, dont know that one.

Did you try clearing the codes in the satellite b-pillar left and right as that’s what was causing my airbag light to stay on?

Spot on! Managed to clear the codes and light...But, it keeps coming back so it must be a permanent fault. Its saying firing circuit resistance? Any ideas? Anybody know what the resistance reading should be on the airbag itself?

This might not help at all but I had an airbag light issue on mine and it was due to uneven weight distribution on the passenger seat (my dog being a dick)

Might be worth just checking if that fault has anything to do with the sensors in the passenger seat.

Sorry can't be of more help.

This is the message im getting which is a bit strange tbh. If the resistance is too low, that sort of equates to duff airbag doesnt it? I'll measure the pins on the airbag tomorrow and report unless anybody has seen this before.

Check the connectors on the airbag and the satellite modules for corrosion.

Right, after a bit of digging, it turns out trying to put the car back together in a hurry to meet my mates at the pub isnt always the best thing. :headbang: Teach me to be ham-fisted.

Theres a lot of info out there but essentially the stupid little clips that go over the connector arent just little clips. They de-isolate the pins with little tangs thereby allowing the arming signal to work. Heres a picture showing the good and bad. Luckily i have one arriving tomorrow.

Airbag Warning Lights

I had an airbag light on after I fitted aftermarket heated seat pads into both seats, probably set it off by connecting the battery to test the seat switches when I wired them in without the seats in the car. Once the seats were replaced I was presented with the airbag light. Plugged in to the Laptop and scanned with BMW Scanner 1.4 which in the SRS module showed no codes, tried INPA and the only code I got was 20 70 2D which indicated that the airbag light is on. Tried clearing codes with both BMW Scanner and INPA but the light remained on. Decided to get a Creator 310+ scanner as a lot of people on here reccomend it. Once delivered plugged that in and found my way to the B Post Satellite sections, forgot what the code was found but used the 310+ to clear and the light went out and has stayed out so far. Well chuffed with the Creator 310+ easy to use and navigate through all the modules beats all the faff of using INPA on the Laptop.

Ive been very impressed with the 310 so far, definitely goes against the scare stories of dealer prices! Only thing i dont like is it wont talk to my wifes Ford.

Heads up for anyone who owns one though, theres a V12.0 software update out. Ive just downloaded it but yet to install.
