Anybody run MV1s?

Post by Zedebee » Sun May 09, 2021 9:35 pm

I’ve tried a few different wheels as an alternative to my 203s, including the ubiquitous 108s, which don’t suit the Coupe in my eyes. I picked up this set of MV1s cheap enough to do a full refurb. What do people think (not refurbed yet!)?

I think they look much better than your 203s, but I wouldn't want to clean them.

But then you seem to have a more dedicated approach to cleaning than me.

And it's always good to see something other than CSLs/Reps!

Glad you like, there are a lot of spokes aren’t there. Now we are getting some freedom back, I hope to be doing a bit more driving and a little less cleaning.

Yes, it's the number of spokes that concerned me!

Just 5 spokes was part of the appeal for the 108s I had on my last 3.0Si but I knew they would deteriorate, so while they were still pretty clean I swapped to 295s from an E89 - both were much less work that the MV2s my 1st 3.0Si had.

And since I saw you last month my MC is now on refurbed 224s, which I hope will be less challenging than the CSL Reps I sold last weekend. :D

Have you cleaned that green stuff off you slam panel yet? :poke:

224s on your MC look great BTW. When we met I couldn't believe everyone else was on CSL/Reps. Hence I'm trying something a bit different.

No, I probably still have green stuff on the slam panel but I haven't opened the bonnet - what I can't see won't upset me! Especially after my 600+ mile tour around Wales - I definitely prefer driving to cleaning. :D

But I know exactly what you mean about CSLs/Reps! OE 224s seem rarer! That was why I bought 295s for my previous E86 (that may also have had some greenery).

I think the 203’s are fine but the MV1’s really date the whole look.
I think they belong on a 3 series of that particular era.
Your choice of course. But that’s my two pennies worth,

Thanks Wyldie85, I did ask. I’m happy if the car looks a bit “retro”, it is nearly 15 years old after all.

I think mv1s look better than mv2s, and better than 108s.
Though not as good as mv3s, or the best z4 wheel hands down, 107s.

Have you considered style 32? In my opinion they offer a slightly more modern multi-spoke look and you don't seem them that often on a Z.

I do like the 107s, I’d have 107s on a roadster any day. Not sure they suit a coupe so well.

I agree. The bronze colour style 32s on HU51A_FU’s car (now sold) are my favourite wheels on the forum, although they won’t be to everyone’s taste. I was looking for 32s but they are hard to come by in the correct fitment, whereas these MV1s turned up locally for peanuts on first search.
