E85 aircon guidance

Post by bigwinn » Thu May 06, 2021 5:47 pm

Afternoon

Not an issue per se but guidance sought

My aircon isn’t as cold as the previous z4

Had it regassed today- good recovery of refrigerant etc

Still not as cold as I’d expect- deffo is cooling though

Any tips on what to check? It’s not critical but while I’ve got the belts off etc for the big day ahead doing vanos and water stuff I can do some checks

Cheers

Stuart

When you said you had it recharged , was this a kwik fit place or a proper place ?
What state is the pollen filter ?
There is no real general inspection that is safe to check for the unqualified. The air con specialist who charged it will know what is going on from his gauges he is using.
What temperature are you getting from the vents when on cooling ?

Whoever serviced it should be able to tell what is going with the pressure reading on his gauges. But if the refrigerant was not low i would suspect the expansion valve being bad or partially clogged.

ATS recharged it

Pollen filter brand new

Where is the expansion valve and how do you check it?

With the engine running and A/C on, if both the low side and high side are reading low it's an indication of a clogged/bad expansion valve.

Where is the valve actually located- in the bulkhead?

Could be expansion valve, could be drier, could be compressor efficiency, could be condenser condition. Best to see someone who knows ac than ATS.
What refrigerant weight did ATS remove ? This may tell you on how much charge was left. Is this documented ? Did they pressure test with nitrogen ? For how long ? Did they detail how much refrigerant was put into the system to recharge ? Is it the same as the label on the car showing the same ?
