Hi Jameszy,Jameszy wrote: ↑Mon May 24, 2021 9:25 amHi there guys, this is me! Not pictured is the wife in the passenger seat and the dog in the boot - you need a practical car they said so I bought one!
The setup is a Saris Bones 2 bike rack with the hatch huggers (not the metal clips to prevent pulling on the rear glass).
The roof box is a Thule Ranger 90 which I bought second hand last week. The roof bars are 127cm Thule Square bars, and the feet are style 750. The fitment kit is the 1210 (sometimes known as 141210) which was made for a 1999 Subaru Impreza hatchback.
All in all it works very well. The boot can be opened with the box in place, but you do need to take the bikes off to open the boot. This is necessary for rest room breaks for the pup, so did so twice on our 5 hour journey from London to Lake District (where I am now).
Any questions please feel free to let me know. I might put together a thread with links if people would be interested.
That's a great set up, I've been wondering how to accommodate the combo of: wife, bike, dog, luggage for various Covid postponed trips. The bit I was most wondering about was the dog? I've got a 6 month old whippet who's fairly lively, but also reasonably small and I'm wondering did you secure your dog in the boot in any way, and how did you make her/him comfortable? Our dog is really good in the car, but so far her experience of motoring has been on the back seat of an Audi A6 clipped in to a seat belt harness. I'd like to try her out in the Zed but there isn't an obvious place to secure her from/to in the boot, she tends to just go to sleep in the Audi, but the coupe's boot is a very different environment. I had thought about running a line from around my seatbelt to the dog's harness, but that does seem to hold out the possibility of being garroted mid-overtake by a spooked whippet zooming around the boot.

Dark blue seen at the Miller & Carter roundabout on Monmouth Drive this morning - could’ve been an M Sport?
Think I saw the badge on the back as turned when I noticed the Zed

Our dog was sourced 13.5 years ago as a pup from the RSPCA - he's some sort of collie cross. Now in his senior years, he's all too happy to lie in his bed there and sleep. To be honest in his younger years, he would have also have been fine if he understands that he needs to settle. The key there is to put his bed in the boot so they understand it is sleep time. One thing that may also help is to put the parcel shelf up - might sound cruel at first glance, but it actually lets light in from around the sides (so it isn't pitch black), and also has the added benefit of keeping them out of the direct sunlight (though the rear window is almost black). I do this on longer journeys for example down to the South of France or something. When I open the boot for rest stops, he's always fast asleep!Bilko wrote: ↑Sat Jun 19, 2021 12:34 amHi Jameszy,Jameszy wrote: ↑Mon May 24, 2021 9:25 amHi there guys, this is me! Edit: reread your comment. If they are used to the seatbelt harness, I would suggest you continue to use that in the boot as they will likely associate it with needing to stay put. There aren't any formal "mounting" points, but you might be able to get away with looping it round one of the luggage netting frames behind the wheel arches. Key is to get them settled, appreciate at <1 year that this might be easier said than done!
