AndyBeech wrote: Sat Feb 27, 2021 11:08 am Your tip to buy one up to 12k and expect it to rise in price (to the moon!) must be a joke though surely  If you wanna make money be better off chucking it at Bitcoin.
There’s undoubtedly a bit of speculative value in Z4s at the moment (here I include anything 3.0Si and M, including roadsters) and values will go up and down for sure. But there’s no real depreciation, so the main cost of car ownership doesn’t exist, hence these cars are great value. If values do drop away, at least you'll have a great car to keep you entertained, unlike Bitcoin where you’ll have sweet FA.
Couldn't agree more, they are great value, and in my opinion M's even more so but it really depends on usage and what you want out of it.
Buying on perceived future values or as an investment though in the current climate, you'd have to be mad. The lack of depreciation as you say is a bonus but yeah, these should be brought driven and enjoyed unless you have a exceptionally low mileage showroom condition example.

The Bitcoin comment was purely tongue in cheek and just to highlight there are far better investments if that's your game. Does amuse me the amount of people clamouring to get a slice of Bitcoin though who have no idea what it is or the risks, which probably accounts for a lot of people buying in right now. Elon's a clever chap.

I have got no skin in the game now so I can comment without bias.

I think if you look after your M or SI your minimum expectations should be that you are not going to lose any money on it.

I didn't want to keep my SI on my drive unused for 2-3 years in the hope to make a couple of grand (which is what I predict will happen at that point). It would make sense to me keeping it for depreciation free motoring if it was my only car.

The M's will always lead the way but will also drag up the prices of the SI with them.

Z4C - Getting very rare - The price gap is closing to the Z4MC?

Had quite a few people say I should lock my mint 25k mile E86 Si Sport in a carcoon and let it appreciate but I didn't and am now +10k miles in a year. It's still very low mileage but the way I see it is that if I buy another car to use as a daily then the depreciation on that would wipe out any profit made on the Z4 Coupe if I came to sell it in a couple of years, especially if I paid storage fees! Figured the best thing to do was drive it and enjoy having a virtually brand new car with a lot more character than an average brand new car. We Buy Any Car still value it more than I paid for it and the Dealer's Price on it for Parkers Valuation is a lot higher but all irrelevant as not intending to sell ever...

I looked for about 6 months for a Z4 Coupe. Prices were all over the place. Some enthusiasts in my opinion were not really in touch with the real world and prices.
I knew I wanted a Auto coupe with under 80k on the clock and prices were anywhere from £7.5 to £12k . I got very lucky with one under 70k on the clock for a fair price. Although I noted the seller had it up for £12k a few months prior.

I'd given up but one came on Ebay and I went right in and collected it a few days later.

No, not really. It seems more or less on the money for a 62k SE from a dealer. It’s quite hard to find coupes with that mileage. Obvs the finish on this car might not be to everyone’s taste.

I didn't think it was an excessive price given it's a trade advert, even for an SE although it's a pretty washed out colour combination!

But as Zedebee says now some Coupes are into their 15th year finding mileages that low is getting ever harder, although I don't know why people in the UK seem so obsessed about mileage - it's just a number.
