Show us your wheels: Width and Offset

Post by inkey$ » Sun Nov 15, 2020 1:50 pm

Wheel maths has never been my strong suit.
On an E86 Zed, what would be the ideal width and offset of an 18” wheel to best fill out the arches?
Spacers needed for flush results front and rear?
UPDATED; Show us your wheel choice with details of size, offset, spacers needed, suspension details etc.

Nothing as I've not yet got a car, but assuming it's a standard E85/86 I was looking to investigate investigate future options.

Wheels: Width and Offset?

So given your wanted ad I'm basing this on a 3.0Si. (M sizes and offsets are different).

The standard wheels on a Sport were MV2s with 108s as a pretty poplular option. Both are staggered 18" rims with 8J fronts and 8.5J rears. Offsets (or ET that is IS in BMW-speak) were 47 on the front and 50 on the rear for both with 225/40 front tyres and 255/35 rears.

I fitted a set of 295s from an E89 to my 2nd Coupe that were the same sizes but had ET29 fronts and ET40 rears, which meant the front wheels sat 18mm further out and the rears were 10mm further out and I didn't have any rubbing issues.

Hopefully this photo gives you an idea of how they looked on the car.

If anything I wouldn't have minded the rears being a bit further out in the arches but I didn't address that before I sold it!

You can always use sites like this https://www.willtheyfit.com/ to see how options compare to OE.

Hopefully you'll find a car to put them on soon.

Wheels: Width and Offset?

Post by minimental » Tue Nov 17, 2020 11:43 pm

I am currently running some style 189's from an e9x et 37x8.5j on the rear et 34x8j on the front, i was measuring up for some spacers for some wheels i am having refurbed which are et43x8.5j all around.

this is what it looks like with the current setup:

Image

Worked out i wanted about 7mm on the rear for a flush setup on the rear meaning effectively something like et36 rear, might just make the spacer 8mm to make a round et35

i second willtheyfit.com really handy tool that takes most of the maths out!

I'm not sure which ones you mean, the 189s or 295s but they are both 18" wheels! If it's the 295s someone advertised a set yesterday.

No problem - they look exactly the same as the 19" 230s but are actually 18". I bought them from someone on here who had them on his E89 but had replaced them with 230s as he wanted 19s.

If you wanted a set it's worth jumping in quick because 295s are listed as NLA!

Ah right, cheers!

You learn something new every day- thank you. I had googled 230's in an 18, nothing came up so I left it there.

I am looking at a few wheel options at the moment so will add them to the list.

I will do some research into them.
