Z4M future classic?
What do people think to the z4m becoming a future classic and great investment? I believe that the z4m will fly up in price over the next 10 years.
Obviously we’ll have to pay to insure, tax and general maintenance so that could indeed weigh out any potential return but for the fun it’s got to be better than money in the bank.
If I were to hazard a guess for a lovely conditioned z4mc in 10 years could be worth upward of 40/50k.
What’s everyone else’s thoughts.

I agree completely about the Z4M becoming a future classic. Not sure whether the roadster or coupe will be the one to have or what timescale we will be looking at, but in my opinion its the perfect car to become a sought after classic in 15 years +.
I reckon only the Z4Ms will be worth this investment though as the non-M cars are probably too common and not special enough to be deemed a classic in the future.
Unfortunately, if you look at older cars that have become classics (Jag E-Type, AM DB5, Porsche 924 etc) its only really the top of the range models which keep increasing in value even if the mileage starts getting quite high. The lower spec versions of these cars (smaller engine models) are usually worth quite a lot less as they creep into the higher miles than the top spec variants (equivalent to M here).
This is purely conjecture, but I expect a great condition Z4MC will only break through 40k in 15 years or so because there are still too many of them on the road with decent mileage. Its only when supply of these great condition, low (ish) mileage examples starts to run out where the price sky rockets.
I doubt the same will happen for my 3.0 non-M roadster, but I hope to never have to sell it, will continue driving it (of course) and maybe one day I find its worth a lot more than I expected!

The Dan, I’m with you mate. I can’t see anything but the m being worth any real money one day and with regard to the roadster vs coupe m’s I think that the coupe will always be worth more.

I agree completely that these fantastic cars should be driven and enjoyed for what they are. But there are quite a few people out there without interest in driving cars and see them as investment opportunities, unfortunately.
Yep, you're totally right, just looked up the 924, definitely got the wrong Porsche (easily done as my Porsche knowledge is quite limited). I think I meant the classic shaped ones from the 1960s/1970s (911 or 912 perhaps), they go for crazy money!

I’m very lucky that my z4mc is a weekend toy and not my daily and for me the fact that it will potentially not loose me money is happy days in my book. I would love for it to be my daily but with a 3 year old daughter it’s just not practical.

They had a jump,they dropped again and now levelled out.
As for every M car thats 25 yrs or older,it will go up in price thats without doubt. Whether is will go to £50k is another thing,but if you calculate your costs over 10 years im sure that appreciation will cover it...
Will it cost £1000 a year to keep it in correct service history,tax,insurance blah blah blah ??

Now that these cars have more or less stopped depreciating, it’s likely that current prices for good examples reflect investment prospects, i.e. Z4MC definitely, Z4MR and Z4C probably, Z4R not yet due to there being quite a few around. Unless you’ve got a mint example under cover with a 10 year view, it’s probably best to view current prices and zero depreciation as an opportunity to own a fantastic car for hardly any money compared to a new equivalent.

I'm sure the M models will climb in value one day - you only have to look at the values of older M cars like Z3Ms, E34 M5s, etc.
And rarity helps with only about 600 Coupes and 600 Roadsters being registered in the UK.
As to when it will happen who knows? I'm just glad I finally bought an MC as it feels so special every time I drive it.

Z4M future classic?
The blue 9k mile one is still for sale on Cars and classics @£30k, dropped from £32k earlier in the year. If people thought these cars were going to be worth north of £40k for a lot more miles I’d have thought this one would have been snapped up and left to go the way of the RS500 or Escort cossie for example, and be fetching £80-100k for the same miles. I just don’t think the M or any Zed for that matter has the cult following to make it worth much more than they are now, those RS blue ovals have a god like status which the Zed will never achieve imho, no idea why as they’re epic epic cars but you only have to look at the concours scene, the fords attract concours like nothing else, when was the last time you saw a top flight concours Z4M...? The only one I’ve ever seen is Beedubs, but I’ve seen a shed load of concours cossies, RS 1600i’s, RS turbos’s, MK 1 and 2 escorts etc, etc.

I can definitely see the z4m coupe being worth very good money one day due to the small numbers, last of the s54 engine and because it’s one of the last “drivers cars”. Yes the amount you’ll pay could potentially outweigh the potential growth but at the same time you get to own an amazing car. They’re definitely still cars out there with great investment opportunities ie mk1 focus rs for one.

A mk 1 Focus RS is only a good investment if you’ve already got one that you’ve had for years....buy one now and you’ll pay top dollar which means it...errrrr....isn’t good investment.
