B pillar module

Post by Kevrev » Thu Oct 01, 2020 4:47 pm

Hi all
Just changed my b pillar airbag module and had codes cleared but need to change the vin number to match it up. Is there anything on ebay that I could buy to do this. Looking at eBay item 274080063630 would this do the trick. Any help would be greatly appreciated. 2004 BMW e85 Z4 3.0i.

Did you replace it with a brand new one or second hand?

As far as I am aware, the satellite modules cannot be reprogrammed but that is only something I have read online. Worth having a go. The cable is worth having just for diagnostics.
To program them you will need a K/DCAN cable (you will be using the K-line function).

The link you posted is from Bcables, they are a reliable supplier. I think their blue cable covers K-line cars like our zeds, they do a K/Dcan one too if you would ever like to use it on newer BMW's.

Bimmergeeks do have a download link for the full BMW software suite which should include all the applications you require.

I have just had a new one fitted. The BMW specialist said that a used one cannot be programmed to the car.

The new part was £258.98 plus VAT.

My labour charges included diagnostic costs to trace the problem. Fitting the new part is straightforward and the labour charges should not be much. I know that fitting is easy because I took the old one out to check its condition.

You can reprogramme a used B pillar satellite module, I did exactly that just yesterday with a module from eBay and this excellent guide from TomR:-

I think this is the issue I am having - what error codes were you having? And where is this module located if you don't mind me asking

I was getting a load of codes intermittently for a while in the sbsl (b pillar left) module, undervoltages and implausible values etc. Then just stopped being able to connect to it at all and had codes in the other airbag modules along the lines of 'sbsl timeout' and 'sbsl too few telegrams'.
New (2nd hand) module fitted and recoded and touch wood, it's been fine for a couple of days and counting!

There's a central airbag module under the carpet behind the handbrake, and the b pillar satellite modules are behind the carpet to the rear of each door. To get to them you take the seat out, take the plastic runner off the sill, pull up the rubber seal then pop off the lower plastic trim panel just behind the door sill. Then lift up the rear carpet and you'll see it on the side. Search the part number off your module on realoem to see which other modules are interchangeable.
