Ready for summer and end of lockdown

Post by McTyke » Tue Mar 31, 2020 10:26 am

Just replaced vanos. Had wheels refurbished. Auto box serviced. New plugs, coolant, GM5 module, all belts, pulleys and tensioners, diff oil, thermostat and housing. New battery on the way. Oil and filter next week (I replace every 6k miles)
2004 2.5 auto 132k miles. Wee bit of rust on front arches but nothing too bad. Cannot be beaten for value for money and that 6 cylinder noise with roof down :D

I've had Helga since October 2019 - drive her every day to work and weekends. I've had roof down couple times but looking forward to days when temperature is above 5 ° c !! And my first car was a hand painted yellow Escort Mk1 van 1100cc that my dad sold me for £50. Been looking after my own cars ever since. You learn the skills when you have no money and over the years build up a decent toolbox. Helga is number 17 in a long line. Keep telling my kids they have missed the golden era.
Thanks for comments.

When you replaced your GM5, did you have to do any coding to get everything to work? I just replaced mine on a 2003, everything works but the driver's side window. Won't go up, or down, or do anything. Put in the old GM5 and sure enough the driver window works. Wondering if I need to code or otherwise program it, or if maybe my new GM5 has a defective window relay.

It sounds like the GM5 that you installed has a bad relay in it. No coding required for the basic functions to work.
