Please post photo of black Z w/clear 3rd brake light

Post by Old-Duckman » Thu Mar 26, 2020 10:32 am

I noticed the corner of mine was cracked (red lens), broke it off and glued it then noticed fractures along the top edge. It is not leaking or falling apart...yet. I want to have a replacement on hand to replace it before I really need to.

Saw a thread here where opinions were given on red vs clear on a white Z, I want to see the clear on black to help make up my mind. As noted earlier, the clear is cheaper (by about $13 USD from what I found).

Photos (and opinions) appreciated.

Agreed it is a hard call. But what I thought is I may as well save the difference in cash and should I really not like the clear once installed I could always do a colored vinyl wrap. Vivid brand colored wraps for light lenses is a couple of dollars less (on Amazon) than what I saved buying clear over red. If I did the Vivid wrap I would probably go with the darkest (closest to black) they offer and I think that would look nice, basically helping the light "disappear" into the body color.

I also prefer the red. The clear has a bit of an aftermarket look to it, in my opinion.

Because of the relative component shapes and lens colours of the rear light units for the facelift and original models, personally I find a clear 3rd brake light better suits the facelift models, whereas the earlier models look better with the red light. IMHO
In my household we've got a Zed of each model, both Black Sapphire, with 3rd brake lights as coloured above and we're both very happy with the appearance. But all personal choice...

Yes in my last post I mentioned "Vivid vinyl film". That is what I meant, what you are calling smoked. $12.99 USD on Amazon for a roll of their darkest film. If I don't like the clear once installed, that's my option. BTW they also sell red film were I so inclined to do that.

You can also get spray tint the more coats you give it the darker it is. That’s another option.
