I had the 2xcite lights in my previous zed. Loved the look of them and I agree that the output is better than oem. A decent quality bulb helps a lot though. I did find however the build quality of the lights was very poor. Poorly crimped connectors, a very lose rubber cover on the back of the light unit meant it was always fogging up.
I’ve found with OEM lights just a little turn of the the level screw thing to raise the light height makes a world of difference.

You can fit an LED bulb into this top light and it makes the world of difference by making the light white instead of yellow and also spreads the light further in the top section (nearly right across the whole top of the light).
You can also turn off the top light altogether by just unscrewing the bulb connector out of the top of the light leaving the bulb in and then seal the hole where the went in with a small plastic disc with sealant to prevent moisture going in. The bulb must be left in to stop warning lights on the dash.
The top lights, halo's and little dot LED's can also be wired separately to either be used as DRL's or side lights, a DRL controller of fleebay is £9 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-DRL-Cont ... SwWI1eFMlL
I had these on my previous E85 and I think they look good, picture below using the above mentioned lights as DRL's

I’ve found the same with aftermarket lights on 2 other cars. OEM are a decade old + And still built well and only problems are generally fogging and rear seals deteriorating.

There seems to be quite a few issues with aftermarket units as you might expect. I don't have any fogging issues with my OEMs and they are in pristine condition. They're just a bit naff practically speaking on dark country roads. I also do love the look of an Angel Eye day time running light. Might be worth getting these guys to mod a spare pair of OEM units https://www.customheadlights.co.uk/

Regarding dark country roads , I had the same problem with my 2007 e86 . I replaced the oem H7's with "Philips Xtreme " and although there is negligible difference on dipped beam , high beam is considerably better. A relatively cheap and effective fix.Penelope wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2020 1:03 pm There seems to be quite a few issues with aftermarket units as you might expect. I'm taking mine back to the garage on Saturday to have the side lights (top in the pic) permanently removed, so should look like the above.
Penelope, have a look through "JINGLES" posts he has the same set up as above!
