Whats your chosen tyre for your Z4?

Post by kenny11 » Mon Jan 06, 2020 6:51 pm

Hey all,
I recently purchashed a set of genuine ellipsoid 107's (Front: 225/40/18 | Rear 255/35/18). Currently running on standard 17's to see through the winter.

As the tyres are due replacing on my recent purchase im just looking for other members feedback on :
1/ Your chosen thread (brand/manufacturer) for your tyres. Both on a budget and top end options
2/ Others experience/recommendations on tweaking the profiles for Ellipsoids

Im sure I am not the only one who wants to know the consensus of your chosen rubber so hopefully we will have a fair amount of input.

Uniroyal Rainsport 3s in the usual staggered 18" setup on 108's.

Love them a lot. Excellent grip and feel.

I had PS3 Runflats on the rear and Bridgestone Pozenta fronts when I brought the car in June. All had good tread but I wanted to stop the awful tramlining.

Vredestein Ultrac Vortis on the Alpina. Very pleased with them, good levels of grip etc. etc.
On the coupe the previous owner had put some Hankook things on. Rubbish. Will swap over to Vortis some time this year

Changing from Tramlining rubbish to Michelin Pilot Super Sports tomorrow.
Had enough of runflats, they are almost brand new. I can no longer wait for them to wear out
had some nerve wrecking moments with them, when I drive the Zed I like to drive it Fast and Furious.

I know you have had multiple sets so clearly happy with them but id wager you will get a pleasant surprise when you do eventually try something else , the MPSS were considered a class act many years but are pretty old now by tyre standards  if you were to try the PS4S i think you would be stunned quite how poor the MPSS are  & there are mid range brands that will easily match the MPSS now for half the money

Current 3.0si has Michelin Pilot Sport 4 on a staggered setup. Notice the grip isn't as good under around 8 degrees but they are pretty much summer tyres.

The car had Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta when I bought the car. They were a bit s**t though and almost dead so they may have been ok when newer.

Changed them to Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 then to the Michelin PS4.

In 2005 the Previous 2.5 se Z4 with Ellipsoids (Staggered) had the original Bridgestone Runflats. They lasted until about 20,000 miles. Did manage to get three punctures in one week. The Bridgestone Runflats were truly awful. Trmlining, little grip in the wet and terrbile ride.

Changed them to the original Goodyear Eagle F1 for about 18 months then to Falken FK452 until the car was moved on.

Would recommend the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 over the Goodyear Eagle F1's although as Mr Wilks has said the technology has changed over the years so what was good then might not be good now.

No idea what the next set will be.
2007 Z4 3.0si Sport. Silver Grey Metallic, Brembo Brakes, HEL Braided Brake Hoses, Machine Monkey Exhaust Tips, Stubby, Piano Black trim, Black Leather, Bilstein B12-Pro-Kit, Michelin Pilot Sport 4 on MV2's. Roof Motor in the Boot!
