E85 and Saris Bones 2 Fitment Help

Post by bearded_ed » Sat Sep 21, 2019 7:51 pm

Hi guys,

I need a bit of help here.

I recently picked up a Bones 2 bike rack for my Z4 under the impression that it would fit as I'm sure I've seen it mentioned on here a few times etc.

Am I wrong?

I can get it on there but it just sits too low on the bumper and either presses it in or will probably just slide down.

Anyone made it work?

I've a bones 3 and have had two hard tail mountain bikes on the back of it. I'm no serious cyclist etc but it works well for the occasional use on thd back of my E85. Sorry I've no pics but I'm sure ChrisD on here has posted some of his saris on the back of his E85

Thanks for the response Mack, good to know you can get yours on. The two bottom feet, where do the sit on yours?

I sit them on the top bit of the bumper. I get what you mean by think it will slip. I thought that would the case but with the straps tight it's always been fine. Probably just cursed it 😜

As a paint freak, please can I step in here and ask you to consider buying a small amount of clear vinyl/paint protection film and applying it at points where the rack will contact paint? Thanks! :D

E85 and Saris Bones 2 Fitment Help

Ed, the 2 lower feet on mine sit on the concave top section of the back bumper.
You need to adjust the straps and the position of the 6 spars around the central aluminium core to get a good fit.
The straps with the widest clips should be the ones that clip next to the top feet as they do most of the weight support work.
As I mentioned in your other thread I place pieces of rubber matting between feet and paint as well as wrap the strap clips in old bike innertubeto protect the paint.
A good tip is to remove your bike wheels and place in the boot to save load on the rack as well as help keep your rear lights from being obscured.
Dont forget to secure the 6 frame clips with tie-wraps too.

Let me dig out some pics and maybe you can copy...
